We are a progressive metal band in the vein of Opeth, hailing from Malta. We haven't got many mp3's yet to upload, but we have recorded a music loop for our website which you can find in our myspace, website, or my esnips for best quality. This musical idea, which we called Preface, is a sort of spacey almost psychadelic kind of thing, definitely not metal, but we think we might use it as a gig opener.

A short snippet of one of the tracks we are working on is also in the myspace. This is going to be the opening track of our upcoming album, which should be released by the end of this summer.

I hope you enjoy what little we have as yet. Any comments are very welcome. Thanks.

I'd like to point out that the sound of the instruments in that snippet is nowhere near the quality we are aiming at. It was recorded with a couple of mics and one guitar is completely washed out in reverb. Just to get an idea though... :)

There are already two prog-metal bands named Anomaly, you might want to consider changing your name.

The music sounds pretty interesting though... it's surprisingly technical considering you cite Opeth as your main influence (at least judging by that snippet)

Yeah the opener is quite a bit technical, but there are quite some laidback sections don't worry.

Edit: Just looked up the other bands... I knew there was a band called Anomaly somewhere, just didn't know two of them were actually prog metal. Damn, the band's been called Anomaly for 6 years now...

Very good music here!   Being a huge Opeth fan myself, I really liked it.

The acoustic guitar in "Preface" was very nice, along with that fading/sliding guitar part.  Preface is a very enjoyable, soft song, that reminds me a little bit of "Patterns in the Ivy".  Also a good use of the tremolo on the guitar later on.

The very beginning of the Track 1 snippet sounded just like "Atonement" for a second, but then it became this awesome guitar part.  I really liked the intro.  Some very good drumming here, you guys have that Opeth sound but with more technicality which made it a fun listen.  I'd really like to hear the whole song "Track 1", but it is still easy to tell that you guys are good.

Keep it up, and maybe try to get some more recordings done soon (even though I know that can be very hard to do, especially quickly!).

Then you've lasted much longer than the other two anomalies ... fingers crossed!Wink

??? I could have sworn I commented here already.  I guess I didn't, so here I go.

I liked your Preface, and I can see how it would make a good gig opener.  I like the bass line best of anything in the song, I'm not sure why.  Everything is played very well, the bass just stands out to me in parts.  I feel like the chord progression keeps frustrating me, though, like I want it to go somewhere else or change to yank me around a bit, and it doesn't.  Tongue

While your track snippet is good and I like it, at the same time I think it is missing a little something.  Maybe it almost sounds too much like Opeth to me?  Or maybe it's that I like it, I don't find anything wrong with it at all, but at the same time it doesn't make me go, 'Oooh wow, I can't wait to hear the rest.'  I wish I knew why, so I could be more helpful, but I don't yet.  It might come to me with more listens!   EDIT: I just listened again, and Ah-ha!  I think I figured it out.  I suspect it is just the recording quality for the snare drum combined with lack of double-bass pedal (at least that I can hear in the recording).  So it's not the song itself at all.

Any chance of hearing some more track snippets soon? Smile

Thankyou all for the nice comments :)

And thanks for the constructive yet critical comments StarsongAgeless :) The fact that you make it wanan go somewhere is probably because it could go somewhere, but since like I said, it's gonna simply be a website loop/gig opener, I didn't really focus that much on its structure, more than connecting the two tunes together.

Now about the snippet, you are absolutely right! The rhythm guitar and drums were recorded simultaneously with one mic each so the sound quality is low. He should be playing double pedal there... It wasn't captured I guess. Hmm... By the way, there is no bass there, just guitar and drums, and we might be adding vocals too, though i'm not so sure of the last.

As for the snippets, I really am embarrased with most of their sound quality. I'll see if I can dig up anything at all, though I don't think so. If that's the case, the next new thing you'll hear should be a good quality version of one of the songs :)

A friend of ours has done an animation based on our Preface track. I think it is very well done, and fits the mood of the music perfectly. Enjoy it:

Note: The name 'Vertebral Silence' was not decided by us. It is the name the artist gave the animation. In fact we have some issues with him as regards payment and credits...

Woah that video is very cool, it's great to see images to acompany your music.  I've always wished someone could maybe do that with one of my softer songs.  Very cool though.
