What Prog song would you like to see these "wanna Be's" struggle with?

"All good people"

"Roundabout"

"Comfortably Numb"

?????????????

My kids are watching the show and I'm choking......

If it hurts so bad, stop singing.

Danbo, how about "Sound Chaser," complete with frenzied "Cha cha cha, cha cha" break? (I still don't know what Yes were thinking at that point...) or, in another vein, the complete "Supper's Ready" (with ca. 1972 costume changes) by Genesis.

Either that, or Deep Purple's "Child in Time." (C'mon, hit those high notes now!)

Of course, all the drunk guys in the audience just want to hear "Free Bird." Confused

I like the subject!! yes definatly Child In Time!!! we have Australian idol here and i would really like them to stretch those vocal chords(i saw Deep Purple here in Adelaide in 1985 and even Ian Gillan couldnt cut it on that occassion there was a riot and my then girlfreind got smashed with a bottle, a sad end to a great concert!!!) not sure about Free Bird though Unless someone can imitate those shrill guitars Woudnt that be cool(winner by far!!!) stay safe!!!

It would be funny to see some of this untalented wreckage try some Gentle Giant madrigals or some of Thijs van Leer's vocalisations from early Focus Compositions. They would be utterly confused. Unfortunately I've seen bits and pieces of this waste of time and it just makes me want to vomit Exorcist vomit!

Yeaaahhhh Baaayyyy Baaaayyy!

Something like "Trollertanz (Ghost Dance) or "Trollertanz(Zombies)" from Udu Wudu would be PERFECT! The look on Simon's face would be PRICELESS!

Also:

"Incipit Tragedia" by Shubb Niggurath (spooooooooky!)

"Lemmings" by VDGG or "The Black Room" (a Hammill solo piece).

""Wound" by Deus Ex Machina"

make one of 'em imitate all instruments and vocals in a Gentle Giant album...their vocal chords would rip and their throat explode.

DON'T DO THAT AGAIN DANBO , I read the title of the thread and almost had a stroke.

Just the thought of Fantasia Berrino yelling the section that says "Lord Of Lords, King of Kings,
Has returned to lead his children home,To take them to the new Jerusalem"
of Supper's Ready, makes me want to vomit.

Just imagine  Clay Aiken making us sleep with his version of Gates of Delirium or Ruben (whatever is his last name) tearing apart Starless, Holy God, the idea makes my ulcer start to bleed.

I'd like to see them do Yes's "Release, Release" from Tormato.  Its Jon Anderson, so it might as well be a foreign language.. and the vocal timing on that song is so impressive that if one of those kids could pick it up quickly, I'd be impressed!

Perhaps PF's "Great Gig in the Sky", atleast they wouldn't have to memorize the words...

There's probably a time limit on their songs, so most prog songs would be out of the running anyway...

hehe ... Gentle Giant - Schooldays

If they sing as a group : Neal Morse/Spock's Beard - Colder In The Sun + Healing Colour of Sound pt2 or Gentle Giant's 'On Reflection' or Yes' 'Leave it'

Renaissance : Ashes are Burning Brightly (the first 3 minutes of it, the instrumental section is cut off by a fadeout effect) ... I want to hear them hit those high notes

for an encore : Bohemian Rhapsody

Led Zeppelin - Going to California or Immigrant song

Cogs in Cogs by Gentle Giant. Deceptively difficult vocal song, what with the unusual syncopation and all.

Montana by Frank Zappa. Give the backup singers a relative challenge, for once!

Either Machine Messiah, Close to the Edge (Even just Total Mass Retain), We Have Heaven, or Parallels by Yes. All very lovely vocal workouts.

Not prog, but anything by Kate Bush for the lady contestants, or maybe some Art Bears, Henry Cow or Thinking Plague.

As already said: A Plague of Lighthouse Keepers

"One more haggered drowned man..."

Pretty much anything by VdGG and Peter Hammill (except Theme One of course).

Even some '80s hair-rock, like AC/DC.

Oh and one more, on the opposite end of the scale, something like "R U Still In 2 It" by Mogwai.

OK, I'm probably going to get blasted for this...

But have any of you actually heard Constantine Maroulis' (from last season) full recorded version of Bohemian Rhapsody? I personally think he did it justice.

Ouch with the Adrian Belew comment!

I'd have to second either the Residents, any Zappa, and "Carry Stress in the Jaw" by Bungle. Any of those would be high on the comical scale to watch an American Idol contestant struggle through. "Knots" would be a trainwreck, too, thus funny.
