Genesis by far. Although I love all of the other bands, Genesis is responsible for some of the most beutiful and stunning pieces of music ever written. No other band can possible top Genesis' string of albums from Tresspass to The Lamb. I even like their pop albums

J-Tull

This kind of polls has started to boring me: it's always a tie between Yes & Genesis. Boring!

Why is Febus jerk, Schizoid_man? Cannot he has different tastes? If Rush and ELP weren't in this list, I would also go with Genesis at least favourite. Then, I'm another jerk  xD

Jethro Tull is the one of these "Big 7" that I've never really been able to get into beyond "Thick as a Brick."   ELP has an awful lot dodgy material among their gems and would come in second for me.  Yes would be my favorite of them.  I like Rush, but I've never been able to convince myself that they belong grouped in with these others.

It was very hard for me to choose between Pink Floyd and King Crimson.  So I flipped a coin, and King Crimson won. Shocked

Rush is definitely my favorite of the above big 7.  I am a big fan of 5 of the 7.  I enjoy a lot of Jethro Tull's music but they are an acquired taste and are not one of my favorites.  The same with King Crimson.  I don't know if it is a this side of the ocean thing, but I have heard songs from all of the big 7 on the local classic rock radio station.  I have never heard a song from VDGG or Gentle Giant on the classic rock station.  I started subscribing to Progression Magazine about two years ago, and it was the first I had heard of either of these bands when they were referred to in other bands reviews.  When Progression did a special 30th year anniversary edition to celebrate Gentle Giant, I was intrigued enough to go out and purchase a number of their albums.  I am still "Acquiring the Taste" and enjoy what I have heard.  All the talk of fans on PA have piqued my interest in VDGG.  I just ordered Pawn Hearts and H to He and will hopefully receive them in the next couple of days so that I might be able to profess an opinion on them.

I really love the 7 bands but the main reason I voted for King Crimson  was because they haven't stop making great albums as all these bands did many years ago.

I love pink Floyd in his entire.

Rush until  "grace under pressure".

Tull until "stromwatch"

Genesis until "and them there were 3"

ELP you can  guess !! that was the last great ELP album.

I picked Genesis who barely edged out KC.  Genesis from 1971-1977 did more that was in a style I liked than KC, who after the first couple of albums, would tend to put one song per album that I would like - you know, The Night Watch, Starless, and Exiles for instance.  Just a personal preference, and a slight one.

I think you got Exiles mixed up with Easy monet or something, because Exile has one of the worst vocal performances I have ever heard.

All the bands, except Rush, belong to the first wave of progressive rock, so why not count Gentle Giant, instead of Rush...?

No mistake.  I just said it's the only song I liked...I didn't comment on the vocal performance.  I like the melody and the  fiddle Wink

But if I had a gun to my head I would pick book of saturdays as second good song on that album

Rush have a very loyal fanbase and that says everything ,I`ll always go for Rush in these type polls I don`t think a prog band could be more successful or more acknowledged  Smile

There lies the problem, they arn't successful as a prog band but as a rock band!

King Crimson, but these aren't my big 7 at all. A band like Amon Düül 2 with at least 4 classic albums ("Phallus Dei", "Yeti", "Tanz der Lemminge" and "Wolf City") definitely belong into the big 7 for me, for example. But the least common denominator of course always supports the average rather than the exceptional.

ejhm... Can (there'll be no post rock and indie rock and the else, etc,.). But off course, that thing about a BIg 7 is just rubish...

There lies the solution many mainstream bores find out about prog thanks to bands like Rush, Kansas & Floyd ... In my opinion Rush are progressive  in many ways not just the music
