Mourning Knight will please those who look for 70's inspired prog.

Taken from the band's http://www.myspace.com/mondaymourning - Myspace page:
"Mourning Knight is the original work of Jason Brower. Though currently involved with Ceiling Unlimited as the primary outlet for composing and performing, Mourning Knight is another vehicle for material not suited for that group. Heavily influenced by the atmospheres and musical soundscapes of the Progressive seventies, passion, drama and a sense of the cinematic are brought together with lyrics that convey the darker, melancholy side of life. It can be anything from a full band composition to a piece for keyboard and vocal, a classical chamber group composition or an instrumental. There are no boundaries."

The band members are:
- Jason Brower / Drums,Keyboards,Vocals and synth bass
- Norm Dodge / Electric and Acoustic Guitars

Playing the fool, The Blind Man's window: great atmosphere - reminds me of the ballad-like works of some heavier bands.

The Juggler's Dilemma: nice rocker - I can see the balls fly around my head.

Amazing what you can do with two musicians, some real bass would've made this even better - though the synth bass suites just fine.

Just checked out the new track "Inside This Wonderland". The intro reminds me of Wish You Were Here/Animals era Pink Floyd, especially the vocals, but after that it gets a bit rockier. Around the 3.5 minute mark I hear some Genesis influences and some very long keyboard notes that make me wish there was a mellotron in there. Those are back in production, so why not Jason?
Further down, it gets more atmospheric, and I sometimes get distracted from listening. Maybe the vocals could do with less repetition to keep my attention. Would be interested in knowing what the lyrics are about also.
Still - far from bad and I'll still be keeping an eye out to Mourning Knight.

How's that for "Heavily influenced by the atmospheres and musical soundscapes of the Progressive seventies" as Jason claims in his introduction.

I heard all 4 songs in a row. Very impressive and professional - all tracks are great but 'The juggler's dilemma' is my favorite. I wish I had a label... Clap

An update from Jason:

Date: May 17, 2008 1:51 PM
Subject: That time again- New Song Added
Body: Yes,it's that time again indeed. This time up I'm featuring a song called "The Artist's Hands" and it clocks in at 9:10. It's almost three songs in one as it goes from section to section without returning to any theme or motif.

It features my great friend and musical cohort Alisa Amor in a more prominent role(beautifully as always) and of course the ever-present Norm Dodge on guitars(Electric and Classical Nylon!) I hope you enjoy my latest aural odyssey and I'm still looking for that final piece for the sixth spot! Enjoy!!

Jason

Well my friend, unfortunately I don't have people knocking down my door wanting to get me into a studio and I don't have the financial resources to do it myself either.I have gotten interest from two other sites contacting me for reviews and interviews in Norway and France so I'm pretty excited about that!! Otherwise,
all I have are my comfortable, old Tascam recordings that are mixed to digital Mp3 format. Believe me,I am dying to record "properly" and get a debut album out( God,I have enough material for 12 albums right off the bat) but  I just need a break of some sort I guess. Help anyone???? LOL Thank you again for all you guys do here for me and everyone else. This is THE Prog site!!!

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know I just added a sixth and final song to my myspace page last night .
It's called "The Blood Of Martyrs". Hope you enjoy it.

Posted By: Angelo
Date Posted: January 07 2009 at 14:17
The Blood of Martyrs... if you had called it the The Blood of Pioneers I would've believed it as well. The intro has a strange folk/country feel to it. that turns completely folk like a short bit later. I like this track - and more and  more I think it's a shame you aren't able to do an album. If you could do some final mixing e.g. on a PC, wouldn't CDBaby style releases become an option?

Thank you so much Angelo! i never thought of CD Baby. Would that constitute an official release and finally pull from the depths of the unsigned bands purgatory??? LOL Don't get me wrong,I do like it here but it sure would be nice to get in the archives!Wink

a CDBaby release would constitute an official release as far as I know. And for some small change, you could get your music for sale from most digital resellers of music too - instruction on the CDBaby site ;-)

Glad to be of help - and I wouldn't mind putting a release in the archives for you. The rules aren't that strict, but we want to avoid crowding the archive with one-day-fly demos. Just check the sticky post at the top of this forum for details.

Thanks again Angelo. I'm still a little confused about the rules and what you're saying. The details in the post said it has to be a physical product and not a burned CD-R which is only what I have at the moment. Is that ok or do I have to go through something like CD Baby. Or,if I make them available for download through the myspace? I'm just slightly hazy on what I need to have to get a release in the archives. I really appreciate all that you and Avestin are doing and can't thank you enough. Everyone that posted here as well, thank you.

Hello Angelo(or anyone reading this).Well,it looks like my debut wil be delayed for a while longer now unfortunately. I've decided that I want to do it right and that means re-recording everything and with the proper sounds I'm looking for and want(mellotron, moog, hammond, etc.) It's going to take a while because I am at the mercy of others who have the recording equipment and everyone's schedules are really tight right now, including the musicians. If I had my own studio and if I could play guitar, this would've been done a looooong time ago! LOL
Could be another year before anything is finished. Damn. It is what it is.

Thank you so much Angelo! I hate to say this ,but ,I don't think I will have a "proper" album anytime soon. The only thing I could possibly do is try to clean up and digitally enhance my existing recordings and even then I'm not sure if I would feel right putting it out there for sale. I've made many copies for people all over the world who expressed interest and I am very thankful for that and the attention I've been getting since I started the myspace page has been and is incredible. Man,if only I was a millionaire and had loads of vintage keyboards and synths! Plus,I have so much material that I could put out 10 albums right off the bat without even thinking. Anyway, who knows what the future holds.
