Took a trip up to York to see this new band last week and they were really excellent. Formed by former Mostly Autumn keyboards player Iain Jennings and featuring Olivia Sparnenn (MA's backing singer) on lead vocals, the band are musically quite different from Mostly Autumn but superb in their own way. I bought their new CD and I absolutely love it.

Much more a "songs" band than MA are, their music is beautifully composed and played, featuring beautiful female vocals, heavenly keyboards and some fine guitar work. It may not be prog enough enough for some of the purists to include on PA but I recommend you to visit their website on http://www.breathingspaceband.info/

(I emphasise that I have no connection whatsoever with the band; I was just very impressed and want to bring them to the attention of others.)

Not at all - they are playing The Grand Opera House in York next week and several other gigs soon, but everything is a bit on hold as Angela Goldthorpe (flute and keyboards) is due to have a baby in December and they can't really plan anything till she's produced.

Bryan Josh said to me that they were still hoping to have their annual Xmas bash at the Lion Inn at Blakey, but it wouldn't be a full MA show as Angela won't be playing. Pity - I always go and it's one of the best gigs of the year.

Iain left MA a couple of years ago to do a solo project (the Breathing Space album) and a touring band evolved to record the new album Coming up for Air. The 2 bands have some commonality, but it's clear that they diverged musically.

Coming Up for Air is a beautiful CD. Iain is turning out to be quite a producer
