haha ... we can get finicky about that sort of thing ... but back on topic ... I agree with most ... the first five in particular The prophet´s song, ogre battle, The march of the black queen, Bohemian rhapsody and Innuendo, Also agree with Millionaire Waltz.
I would have to add My Fairy King from the first album. That's the most glaring omission. Also, White Queen has a proggy vibe but perhaps it isn't that proggy musically.

you are talking about one of my fave bands here.. and i always thought that they should be under the Art/Eclectic Rock genre but anyway.. my fave Queen tracks - regardless their progginess are: 1.Doing Alright 2.Father To Son 3.Tie Your Mother Down 4.You Take My Breath Away 5.Killer Queen 6.Let Me Live 7.Innuendo 8.Show Must Go On 9.We Are The Champions 10.I Want It All 11.Under Pressure 12.Bohemian Rhapsody 13.White Man 14.Fat Bottomed Girls 15.Bicycle Race 16.Somebody To Love 17.Spread Your Wings 18.Save Me ------------- -music is like pornography... sometimes amateurs turn us on, even more... -sometimes you are the pigeon and sometimes you are the statue... |

"The Prophet's Song" has to be the proggiest piece those guys put together. "Bohemian Rhapsody", "Ogre Battle", "Mustapha" (if just for the joke it was) are pretty well, too. I wouldn't consider "Who Wants To Live Forever" or "The Show Must Go On" Prog. ------------- "We've got to get in to get out" |

Queen have always struck me as Vocal-Prog rather than Musical Prog, (they really needed to drag out those synths much earlier

The Miracle (something of a return to prog-tinged fare- vastly overlooked, IMHO)
You Take My Breath Away (perhaps more of a ballad, but the sheer effectiveness of the overdubbing here is amazing, IMHO)
I've always been of the opinion that synthesisers did not really add to Queen's oeuvre at all. If anything, I think it made them a bit lazy. I think most of their 80s albums in particular have the stench of complacency (lots of good to great pop/rock singles but I don't like a lot of the album tracks in their 80s period). I missed the creativity of their 1973-6 period where they'd use studio/production techniques instead of heavy synthesiser use.

Queen's my favorite band, but I would hardly call them progressive outside of a few songs and the Queen II album (which is only barely prog-related in itself) They're only prog if you want to call artsy hard rock progressive....

Although I don't consider Queen a progressive rock band, there are some progressive tracks which are missing in your previous lists posted in this forum. I would class them as artful pop. Which the roots of that are the Beach Boys Pet Sounds and much of the Beatles from Rubber Soul to Abbey Road with some exceptions. |

Queen has been my favorite band since 1990...hands down, I will always love them. As far as awesome prog songs...there aren't that many really...Queen was never really a prog band. If I had to pick 10 it would look like this: 1. The March Of The Black Queen 2. The Fairy Feller's Master Stroke 3. The Prophet's Song 4. My Fairy King 5. White Queen (As It Began) 6. Innuendo 7. Was It All Worth It (just because of the middle section and because it's one of my personal favs) 8. Bohemian Rhapsody 9. The Millionaire Waltz 10. Machines (or back To Humans) A few of these a re a stretch for prog...but they are just awesome songs regardless. |

What about the 20 minute untitled 'wake' type piece at the end of 'Made In Heaven'. It brings tears to my eyes. It builds but never gets there. There are hints of something that was but is no more. While I've always felt Queen had potential to be a very strong Prog band, that just wasn't in their total game plan. 
The most Progressive song they have, IMO, is The Prophet's Song, but many of their earlier albums are over-all Prog in nature.

It may be cause that thingy of Freddie... 2nd Even though Freddie's voice is good I personally don't like it. 3rd I would never say Queen is prog cause in that case we start to name from all bands 2 or 3 long songs and that's it. 4th nothing to do with the subject but I'll say it anyway, I think is a huge mistake to name Queen one of the best classic rock groups. Led Zep, Sabbath, Purple, Trapeze, Nazareth, Van Halen(don't like it lol), Rainbow, etc are way much worthy and unique than Queen. That harsh opinion maybe cause the hate to Freddie but still the music doesn't reach to my soul and much less the overrated Bohemian Rhapsody... Not saying that people that listen to Queen are crap or anything more, or less but I sincery hate that band. No Offesnse really to the fans. |

So when did you encounter Freddie's thingy? I had heard he was very promiscuous on both sides of the fence. And that has nothing to do with the music they wrote.
