Here's a stupid topic! You sick of all dem nasty ole Top Epics topics where people talk about "Supper's Ready" and the like? Yeah, well, I heard "Supper's Ready," and it ain't that great! ...Okay, actually, it's pretty damn awesome, but that's beside the point.

In other words, I don't want "Karn Evil 9," I want...oh, I dunno. "Pirates" or something. What do you feel are the most underrated epics? Here's a couple to chew over.

"Maggie M'Gill" -The Doors (Morrison Hotel): Okay, I know, I know. It's not REALLY an epic, right? But it's so goddamn cool! It's far more musically mature than that...I dunno, "The End" thing, and people adore that. It's divided in two, and each half contains its own mystical feel.

"Rememberences" -Carmen (Dancing on a Cold Wind): Not the strongest of the strong, but some kinda interesting parts here; might be the most forgotten side long epic in the history of side-long epics.

"Rocks on the Road" -Jethro Tull (A Little Light Music): Really quite fascinating. An epic with NO KEYBOARDS, that actually manages to be more epic than the album version (that DID have keyboards! Take THAT keyboards!). Dig that coda man...awesome.

More later...

Hard to come up with ten but...

Phish - "You Enjoy Myself". Only 12 or so minutes in the studio, but the live versions are all over 20 minutes long, and feature a vocal jam with all the band members at the end.
Phish - "Harry Hood". A 15 minute epic with lots of cool riffs and exciting tempo changes.

Phish really don't get enough credit on this site.

I think 3rd Impression off BSS has gotten a bum rap.  If there is one track that encapsules all that ELP accomplished, then that's it.

Yes's That, That Is suffers from an absolutely stupid section about a drive-by shooting.   Replace that with something good and you have an epic that is worthy.

If Genesis had had Hackett and any sort of drive to get back to what they had accomplished earlier in their career, Domino could have been pretty good.

I think Nine Feet Underground gets plenty of credit on this site.

Midnight Mushrumps by Gryphon isn't mentioned often. It's an amazing song, too.

I don't know if it fits here, but In The Wake Of Poseidon is a great song. I'd say it should be on the debut KC album.

It's on Montesano's 1977 solo album, "Homenaje." It's about 9:12 long. I tried to get Ivan to include the album in the archives, but its yet to go up under the "Various Artists" rubric. Maybe I still need to give him more information. The album itself consists of two great prog songs, two awfully insipid ballads and three atmospheric pieces. The entire Crucis line-up plays on the prog tunes. Though not necessarily at par with their original albums, they're fine songs. Naturally, "Cuando la duda se hace grande alrededor" qualifies as a forgotten one.

I second thatClap. Great song indeed - listened to the album earlier this morning with a view to writing a review. Another great prog-folk epic that gets mentioned all too rarely is Fairport Convention's "A Sailor's Life", probably their proggiest track ever.

Other personal favourites that deserve a mention:

Tenemos Roads - National Health
For Richard - Caravan
L'Auberge du Sanglier - Caravan
Out-bloody-rageous - Soft Machine
Suite Sister Mary - Queensryche

Here's a list of my 'guilty pleasures' that I haven't seen above.....may not be 'epic length'  but ones that have 'burnt holes in the ipod drive'.....

Supertramp -- Brother Where you Bound
Pink Floyd - High Hopes -- I know....without Roger......
Peter Gabriel - Signal to Noise
Jethro Tull - Baker St. Muse
Steve Hacket - Shadow of the Hierophant
Roger Waters - It's a Miracle/Amused to Death
Oingo Boingo - Insanity
Porcupine Tree - Radioactive Toy (especially the Como Divine version)
and maybe a bit too recent...Galahad - I could be God

I would have listed Triumvirat, Renaissance, IQ, and others....but thought it was not necessary to repeat........
