21st century schizoid man is just an absolute classic just like everything else on the album. This one brought jazz into the mix which was quite odd at the time, or just revolutionary to some. So I pick that one.
Moonchild I adore also.

Epitaph by far, followed by In the Court.
Don't like any of the rest much.

I Talk to the Wind. I don't think this album is that great anymore, but this song is one of the greatest ballads ever.

Epitath wil play on a loop at my funeral/party : its in my will! After 38 years of steady-heady progging, this is the ONLY song that consistently gives me chills, spills and assorted goosebumps. The lyrics are a tad obtuse but vive la difference! The massive sweeping mellotron propelled chorus is just plain divine. Number 1 track all time by about 10 light years. Amen

Epitaph, followed by In The Court.., dstantly followed by the rest. I am not as enamored of Schizoid Man as some others here, but I do recognize it's cutting edge-ness.. hmmm... is that a word?

Guess where my vote went? Moonchild! Why? Because this is the only really groundbreaking song on "In the Court of the Crimson King". It opened doors into risky territory and encouraged other bands to do really risky things too. The rest is not so spectacular at all. Sure, "21st Century Schizoid Man" is a real rocker and one of my preferred songs to dance to on parties, but the rest of the album is not so extraordinary at all.

This album is the birth of progressive rock, and it's the most important cd in this genre. Simply perfect, in every single second of recording.
I think the tracks that really changed the history (even if it is all outstanding) are 21st century schizoid man and Moonchild. I vote for 21st because it has a rhythm that i'll never forget, NEVER!
What a masterpiece... I'm moved everytime I listen to it.

'Epitaph' for me.
I like this album a lot, and I'm not really a big KC fan overall. There's not a duff track on this album as far as I'm concerned.

Even though schizoid man doesn't move me anymore (I must have listened to it nearly a hundred times by now), it is my favorite.

I had a hard time deciding on this one. It came down to In the Court... and Epitath.
In The Court... won by a hair.

Schizoid Man. The rest doesn't interest me as much. Terribly overrated album, even when considering it's historical importance.

This thread reminded me to re-buy the album. The CD version I have is 15+ years old and I hear the newest remaster sounds excellent.

Well, groundbreaking it may be but does that make it the most excellent piece of music on this record? I vote a definite no and choose Epitaph. Just like I would choose Eleanor Rigby any day over Tomorrow Never Knows on Relvolver... To each their own, of course!
Amazingly it took me four years into my prog collecting quest to finally grab a copy of ITCOTCK! I bought it last summer because I heard Epitaph on the radio, would you believe. A four hour program focusing on nothing but progressive rock was aired one night on one of Finland's national radio stations, now how cool is that!

I honestly can't choose between I Talk to the Wind and Epitaph. Epitaph seems to be getting a lot of love though so I'll go with the former. The others are fantastic too.
