aspects of physics . . . little known san diego math/postrock band from san diego, occasionally featuring rob crow of pinback...

heavy vegetable (maybe?) early pivotal san diego math rock...check them out for yourself.

also...is Gorguts on here? (extreme prog metal); maybe not their first couple albums but "obscura" is definitely prog influenced...

and most importantly Amorphous Androgynous...side project of Ambient electronic artists future sound of london. check out "the isness" its a pretty progressive/retro album reminiscent of 1960's love-in.

anyway i registered just so i could suggest these bands and help the archives become more comprehensive and extensive. shoot me down if you so feel but check these bands out.

Gorguts is on the PMT list (has been there for some time now) and are as of now, rejected (though I think all agree that Obscura alone is the album that would support their inclusion).

As for the other Math-rock, I'll let Ruben know about this.

Heavy Vegetable - relistening to this I don't know if you guys will consider it "true" prog but it defitnitely has elements...short, catchy pop songs, with shifting melodies and time signatures and interesting harmonizations with tongue and cheek lyrics...my fav songs on their myspace profile are "head rush" and "doesn't mean sh*t" but they're all good. "Jackie Chani" might be the most prog.

also another band i thought of in the meantime, another obsucre/presently defunct san diego band, but if Sleeping People is on here then I think these guys deserve a mention: Dura Mater http://www.myspace.com/duramater (not the best example of their music, but deserves a listen anyway). I'll try to find a way to put up more of their music.

I'm pretty sure Sleeping People are on there. If not, they really should be. Listening to them now and it's absolutely fantastic.

Math Rock? Yes!
After listening to the songs in their myspace page, I'm convinced that they're definitely Math Rock material.

Judging from the only song they have at their myspace page I'm pretty sure that they'll fit nicely in Heavy Prog. They have a very strong King Crimson influence that will surely help in pushing the band to PA. But it's just one song. I think it's best if we wait for more material to come around.
