http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=3353 - WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM biography

WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM are from Washington state and were formed by brothers Nathan (guitar, vocals) and Aaron Weaver (drums) and Rick Dahlin (guitar). The band self-released two demos in 2004 and 2005 before releasing their debut,"Diadem of 12 Stars" in 2006.

"Diadem of 12 Stars" was critically acclaimed and heavily praised throughout the metal underground community and WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM signed to Southern Lord Records.

The band released their second album "Two Hunters" in 2007."Two Hunters" was recorded on tape. The process of the recording was very organic with very minimal use of any digital effects or manipulation.

Even though WOLVES IN THE THRONE ROOM'S music is deeply rooted in the traditions of black metal, they blend their music with elements of raw black metal, punk, folk and progressive rock and metal, subverting the common aesthetic and ideology in order to remain true to their own personal manifestations.Their willingness to experiment with unconventional methods of recording and collaborate with avant-garde musicians sets them apart from most of the bands in this genre. This willingness to take chances and forge ahead with total disregard of convention or boundaries makes them a perfect fit for Tech/Extreme Prog Metal and they are HIGHLY recommended.

IN LINGUA MORTUA biography

IN LINGUA MORTUA is a progressive black metal project started in 1999 by keyboardist Lars Fredrik Frøislie of WHITE WILLOW and WOBBLER.Frøislie was inspired by and mixed influences from a wide range of music, taking things from 70's prog rock,Norwegian black metal, folk, jazz, classical music, electronica and film music (particularly film noir and horror) and fusing them together to come up with IN LINGUA MORTUA'S unique sound.

Frøislie recruited guitarist Marius Glenn Olaussen (ASMEGIN),drummer Uruz (URGEHAL,VULTURE LORD),voclist Trondr Nefas (URGEHAL,VULTURE LORD),additional guitarist Raymond Håkenrud (ASMEGIN),saxophonist Kristian Hultgren (WOBBLER),violinist Sareeta (RAM-ZET) and flutist Jonny Pedersen for the prject and in 2000 recording began on IN LINGUA MORTUA'S first album.

Recording the debut album moved very slowly, and the project was plagued with one problem after another. The final recordings were finished in 2005 and IN LINGUA MORTUA'S debut album "Bellowing Sea-Racked by Tempest",was finally released in 2007.

Frøislie is busy recording IN LINGUA MORTUA'S second album. He came up with most of the basic ideas for this new album during the long, grueling recording sessions of the debut.

IN LINGUA MORTUA play extremely original progressive black metal and are HIGHLY recommended.

Wolves In The Throne Room. Two Hunters is so good it is unbelievable.

I recommend anyone who hates black metal to give this a listen. It is ambient, raw, beautiful, fast, melodic at the same time. I can't put into words how good this record is.

Oh, cool. Yeah they're an intense band.

Have you tried In Lingua Mortua? They're in a different ballpark, but as intense.

^^^ Wolves in the Throne Room, while at times get quite intense, they craft incredibly beautiful music, especially passages in Two Hunters.

This was the first time I realised they were featured on this site. They are one of my favourite metal bands, so I cannot recommend they highly enough.

Wolves in the Throne Room are absolutely awesome.  Apart from their music being incredible, it's also pretty interesting that the band lives on a secluded farmstead in rural Washington state, where they raise chickens, brew their own beer, and record amazing black metal.

In Lingua Mortua is my lattest black metal purchase and every time I spin the CD I like it more, I feel like if I was back in my black metal times!!
WitTR are also awesome though. These two groups brings something new to black metal, a wider approach of the genre, mixing very varied influences for astonishing results!
Thank you Avestin for adding themon PAClap .

I've heard  Two Hunters by Wolves in the Throne Room, but I haven't heard In Lingua Mortua.  They do sound interesting, though.

I haven't heard much Black Metal (I only have about 4 albums) so things are slowly sinking in.

I listened to Lingua Morta just when i saw this.  I don't really like them that much.  If I'm going for this type of thing, I'd take Lacrimosa over this anytime.  But I'm not too into the bombastic metal.  To me, it just sounds goofy, with a few exceptions.  This Lungua Morta group isn't an exception, the composition just doesn't do much for me

Wolves in the Throneroom are eeeexceeeleeeent!!!!!

They really communicate something!  i've been listening almost everyday!

I just got two hunters and I must say....

I LOVE black metal guitar solo's

I HATE black metal snare drum work.

The band is indeed blending the atmsophere of black metal, with the bombasticness of prog, with a little bit of post metal recording techniques thrown in.

Now I need some lingua morta
