It was pretty cool that everyone's vote counted a lot. One vote sent albums from the depths to the top 300.

Some of those are surprisingly low to me (SB's Snow, Hackett's Wild Orchids, Leftoverture and Tommy).  How many people participated in this compilation?

32 lists were submitted. However 1,692 albums received votes. The turnout was pretty good but there was a lot of variety. A lot of albums were surprisingly low (one top twenty album only got 6 points!) and just as many were surprisingly high.

The list looks pretty good so far. I'm a bit confused by Quadrophenia and Tommy being so low on votes, and I think that Train of Thought and Octivarium should swap places, but aside from that, I'm liking what I see. I'm guessing #1 is Wish You Were Here, Thick as a Brick, or one of the main Genesis albums, but I could be wrong...

For those of you like me that have a hard time waiting for results, you know that this is a 2 album race for the top spot.  I think the album that will win actually got zero #1 votes, but was on 20 people's list and 13 top 20 votes.  We'll see.  kenmar

My thoughts exactly!  I realize that everyone has subjective opinions, but this seems to be a rather glaring omission if 24 people submitted lists and Quadrophenia only showed up on 3 of them.  Shocking!

I'm very embarassed, I forgot to put Quadrophenia on my list.  I found the poll at the last minute and put together my list quickly. Quadrophenia would be in my top 20.  Sorry, kenmar

One of the interesting things to me about this list is the juxtapostion (sp?) of classic albums that I have been listening to for 20+ years with recent albums. Case in point with two albums I personally know very well are Blackfield 2 and Minstrel in the Gallery.  Blackfield 2 is something I been listening to a lot recently and I love it, loads of beautiful mellotron, great lyrics and SW's melodies but seriously higher than Minstrel in the Gallery at 305 vs. 354.  I saw Tull in 1978 and when they played the song Minstrel in the Gallery it was nuts, just crazy explosive energy. Plus Baker St. Muse and other great songs.  Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying new prog isn't deserving of high scores, it's just weird to see those albums rated higher than what I consider classic music from my teenage years.   Kenmar

I was surprised with certain albums and certain bands getting a huge reception and even more surprised about the classic albums left in the dust. For example, one of the top 20 albums of the site received a grand total of 6 points in this list. It's all really interesting.

This is because people vote for what they like, what they actually listen to, instead of what they feel should be rated higher. I would rank almost any Gabriel era genesis album higher than say, Ocean Planet . . but i like Gojira's album more. I actually listen to it, even though its not the 'classic' or 'masterpiece' Genesis might have put out. I think that says something important

Are you saying people vote for what they like right now? I don't think so, I voted for " The Lamb" as #1 even though I only break it out once a year. I still remember listening to it in its entirety every day.  No modern day album can compete with the soundtrack of your life!  I think its based of age to some degree, younger prog fans I suspect would vote newer albums higher. I think we should all sumbit our ages and cross reference with  average age of albums ]we picked.  I'm 48.  Kenmar

One thing I did notice in the voting was that some people only put in the minimum requirment of 50 albums were others did their best to get to the maximum of 250. I know not everyone has 250 albums (my list got to 210 ish) and that coming up with such a list can be quite difficult, but I think it would have made quite a difference if some people extended their lists a bit.

I cant wait for the final results!

Kenmartree - you'll have to wait to find out like everyone else

Sleeper - You're absolutely right. Even though albums at like 150 or lower don't have as many points, they have been proving to be equally important.

Everyone else - thanks for your interest. I've been graced with a snow day so no school which means I can start putting up the top 100 shortly.

#100 Transatlantic - Bridge Across Forever
(6 votes - 1163 points) Highest rating: #4 by KingCrimson776
Transatlantic is the greatest band ever. No band has ever written such epic music, and no one will ever come close again, unless by some miracle.(King Crimson776)

#99 Jethro Tull - Heavy Horses
(6 votes - 1166 points) Highest rating: #18 by Moreitsythanyou
A very dense and textured album, Heavy Horses is a prog folk classic with its diverse melody and excellent vocals. (Moreitsythanyou)

#98 Kayo Dot - Choirs of the Eye
(5 votes - 1177 points) Highest rating: #1 by Acebad
Choirs is truly an adventure.it may take 2 years, it make take less, it may take a lifetime but given time this album grows lush and beautiful. Its challenging music, and almost the masterpiece it intends to be. (Keiser Willhelm - #8)

#97 The Beatles - The Beatles (The White Album)
(6 votes - 1178 points) Highest rating: #11 by El Bφthy
This album really shows how advanced the Beatles were for their time...it was 1968, noone was doing something like this!!!...really the Beatles were miles ahead of every one...and in many ways still are. (El Bφthy)

#96 Banco del Mutuo Soccorso - Darwin!
(6 votes - 1197 points) Highest rating: #1 by BigHairyMonster
An essential album to Italian Symphonic. Lush keyboards, soaring vocals, excellent songwriting and exectution. A terrific concept album. (Moreitsythanyou #41)

#95 The Who - Who's Next
(6 votes - 1204 points) Highest rating: #1 by 1800iareyay
As usual, the band brims with energy, sending pounding chords and drums cascading through your head. However, this release shows the band exuding some restraint, and it is definitely an improvement. (1800iareyay)

#94 The Mars Volta - Frances the Mute
(7 votes - 1208 points) Highest rating: #6 by Heyitsthatguy
it still proves to be an interesting and engrossing experience from start to finish. At least, if you have the patience to sit through this 78 minute monster. (Heyitsthatguy)

#93 Led Zeppelin - Physical Graffiti
(6 votes - 1224 points) Highest rating: #16 by glass house
Physical Graffiti is a masterpiece of rock music as a whole. I cannot recommend this album enough.{1800iareyay #90)

#92 Return to Forever - Romatic Warrior
(6 votes -1233 points) Highest rating: #6 by glass house
It has not grown old over the many listens I've given it, and it is always pleasurable and incredibly entertain every time. Romantic Warrior is one of the finer jazz outputs ever, and is only a few minor shades from being an utter essential. (Shakespeare #66)

#91 Mahavishu Orchestra - Birds of Fire
(6 votes - 1249 points) Highest rating: #7 by KingCrimson776
This is their best (and most intense) album. Essential for any jazz fusion or progressive rock fan, and highly recomended for any rock fan. (King Crimson776)

#90 The Beatles - Revolver
(7 votes - 1255 points) Highest Rating: #18 by BigHairyMonster

#89 Devin Townsend - Terria
(6 votes - 1258 points) Highest rating: #1 by Keiser Willhelm
The music speaks volumes to me, convays a sense of grandure and beauty that i have heard or felt in very very few albums. (Keiser Willhelm)

#88 King Crimson - The Power to Believe
(7 votes - 1262 points) Highest rating: #26 by El Bφthy
It’s a MASTERPIECE! I couldn’t believe my ears... this band, my favorite band, a band that is more than 35 years old, can make this stunning record in 2003!!! Wow, I was blown away... the Crimsons are still Kings!!!{El Bφthy)

#87 Sigur Ros - ( )
(6 votes - 1276 points) Highest rating: #13 by Schizoid_man77
...Beautiful also being a good description. The awesome melodies, and sometimes moving arpegios of the guitar and piano are really what make the album, besides the intense climaxes. (Schizoid_Man77)

#86 Dream Theater - Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence
(7 votes - 1283 points) Highest rating: #19 by Heyitsthatguy
This album is quite possibly the bands most experimental as it takes in a wide range styles and tones in the album, whilst maintaining a more heavy metal sound than in previous albums. (sleeper #132)

#85 Emerson Lake and Palmer - Brain Salad Surgery
(7 votes - 1295 points) Highest rating: #6 by Markosherrera
The epic atmosphere and intense playing on this album still amazes me everytime I listen to it...a fantastic album, with a great chilly and intense atmosphere lying over it. (BJ-1 #9)

#84 Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Yanqui UXO
(7 votes - 1321 points) Highest rating: #10 by Heyitsthatguy
Breathtaking. This is one of the greatest post-rock records I've ever heard in my life...with its lush and sweeping orchestral arrangements and intense emotional peaks.(Heyitsthatguy)

#83 Comus - First Utterance
(6 votes - 1322 points) Highest rating: #3 by Evans
There is one word with which i can summarise "First Utterance", and that is "intense". Everything about it is intense. For those of you with a leaning towards the more grotesque, this is the album for you. (Evans)

#82 Riverside - Second Life Syndrome
(7 votes - 1322 points) Highest rating: #5 by Darkmatter, Lofcaudio
Riverside's second album is very necessary to have. It's not the most metal album of progressive metal, but it's a masterpiece. (darkmatter)

#81 Dream Theater - Awake
(7 votes - 1342 points) Highest rating: #7 by Heyitsthatguy
Its the best example of them balancing heavy metal with progressive rock. I like it. (Heyitsthatguy)

#80 Queen - A Night at the Opera
(6 votes - 1343 points) Highest rating: #5 by Draconean
The variety of musical styles, the bombast, the vocal harmonies, Brian’s unique way of guitar playing, the constant changing of moods between ballad and rock in one song. Everything that made Queen such an interesting band is present here. (Draconean)

#79 Deep Purple - In Rock
(7 votes - 1351 points) Highest rating: #14 by Easy Money

#78 Radiohead - Hail to the Thief
(7 votes - 1358 points) Highest rating: #20 by laplace
It is, at heart, a collection of really great songs.I believe that due to the fact that Radiohead are still pushing boundaries and not sacrificing quality of songs in addition to the album being well crafted makes it an excellent addtion to any prog music collection. (Moreitsythanyou #28)

#77 Sigur Ros - Agaetis Byrjun
(7 votes - 1375 points) Highest rating: #4 by Acebad
Agaetis Byrjun showcases the atmospheric and melodic qualities that the band possesses. The result is haunting and artistic, somber and uplifitng. With their charming. sweeping soundscapes, Sigur Ros is a powerhouse of beauty and emotion that can certainly please the ears of many people.(Moreitsythanyou #14)

#76 The Beatles - Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band
(8 votes - 1398 points) Highest rating: #12 by Oceansizzle
It contains some of the catchiest songs, and one of the most iconic album covers ever. The gold standard of pop records.  (cookieacquired #42)

#75 Opeth - Damnation
(9 votes - 1400 points) Highest rating: #16 by asimplemistake
This is an album full of beautiful, melancholic soft songs by Swedish metal gods OPETH. I found it very surprising that a metal band like OPETH would make an album like this, but I'm very glad that they did. I think almost everyone who likes prog would enjoy this album.(asimplemistake)

#74 Godspeed You! Black Emperor - F#A#(infinity)
(7 votes - 1409 points) Highest rating: #2 by Keiser Willhelm
This is truly some of the most hauntingly beautiful music i have ever listened to. The gorgeous yet thunderous buildups, delicate guitar, the apocalyptic monologues, and beautiful melodies, this is incredible stuff and unlike anything you've listened to before. (Keiser Willhelm)

#73 Pink Floyd - The Wall
(9 votes - 1409 points) Highest rating: #11 by Atavachron

#72 Rush - Permanent Waves
(8 votes - 1416 points) Highest rating: #33 by Moreitsythanyou
My personal favorite Rush album, this album contains the perfect balance of catchy pop-based music and technical prowess.

#71 Camel - Mirage
(7 votes - 1417 points) Highest rating: #31 by El Bφthy
But, it΄s obvious where Camel are at their best... the softer side, the melodies! Ah, talk about a band with some of the most beautiful melodies you are gonna listen to. Camel is one of those bands that can appeal to the a hardcore Avant fan, to the most inexperienced rock listener. (El Bφthy)

#70 Soft Machine - Third
(7 votes - 1424 points) Highest rating: #9 by Geck0
For me though, this is one of my favourite albums of all time, even with its minor flaws. The musicianship is astounding throughout and even though it may not be immediately apparent, the compositions are also excellent. So for me, this album is an essential album for lovers of groundbreaking jazz rock and minimilism. (The reviewer formerly known as Geck0)

#69 Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin I
(7 votes - 1454 points) Highest rating: #16 by Kenmartree

#68 Black Sabbath - Paranoid
(7 votes - 1463 points) Highest rating: #7 by Zappa88
However, it's massive influence on all of heavy rock makes it an impossible album to underrate. While Sabbath would make some great albums after this, this will forever remain the high water mark of their career, as well as metal. (1800iareyay #25)

#67 Camel - The Snow Goose
(9 votes - 1480 points) Highest rating: #13 by asimplemistake
With beautiful melodies and great songwriting throughout the album, The Snow Goose is a near masterpiece. This is highly recommended. (asimplemistake)

#66 Anglagard - Hybris
(8 votes - 1494 points) Highest rating: #4 by Musicalsalmacis
The band itself sounds like it was a prog supergroup...Despite sounding like an amalgam of 70s prog heroes, Anglagard is one of the most original prog groups of the 90s. (1800iareyay #79)

#65 Marillion - Misplaced Childhood
(8 votes - 1528 points) Highest rating: #18 by Evans
Anyway, since then i've gone totally over to Marillion, and while i can see how people prefer Genesis, i still feel obliged to come to their defense and say why i think that the son is better than the grandfather. The whole concept makes so much more sense to me on a personal level than most albums. (Evans)

#64 Frank Zappa - Hot Rats

The music contained on this album is truly a delight to hear, especially for musicians.I would recommend it to anyone with musical tastes beyond the ordinary. (King Crimson776)

#62 Mr. Bungle - Disco Volante
(8 votes - 1560 points) Highest rating: #4 by cookieacquired
Now THIS is something you don’t hear everyday. This is an extremely well made album actually, and I think this is one of the most original and weirdest Avant-Prog I’ve listened to so far. (Bj-1 #11)

#61 Pain of Salvation - Remedy Lane
(7 votes - 1570 points) Highest rating: #2 by Lofcaudio
This particular album is outstanding from start to finish. Daniel Gildenlφw’s impressive vocal talents are in full display accompanied by some very well-crafted songs. If you like music that rocks, I think you will agree with me that Remedy Lane is fabulous prog metal. (Lofcaudio)

#60 Caravan - In the Land of Grey and Pink
(8 votes - 1571 points) Highest rating: #10 by Zappa88
With Caravan's 1971 release "In The Land Of Grey And Pink", the Canterbury genre of music peaked and then was born again. Of course, since it is the true gem of the genre, it contains all of the necessary elements for an amazing Canterbury album, such as the psychedelic surrealism and the funny and goofy approach to writing lyrics. Start with this album if you are just looking for an album that is very musically intelligent yet fun at the same time, all while staying clean and interesting. (Zappa88)

#59 Supertramp - Crime of the Century
(8 votes - 1576 points) Highest rating: #1 by Bj-1
This is a dynamic and progressive journey to me, a really unique album which changes moods by each track, nothing here is bad in my book, this is pure perfection both in compositional skills as well and technical competence from the band. After all these listens I’ve given this album, I still can’t find something I dislike about it and it never get’s dull or tiresome to my ears. (Bj-1)

#58 Harmonium - Si On Avait Besoin D'une Cinquiθme Saison
(8 votes - 1611 points) Highest rating: #7 by El Bφthy
Possibly the most beautiful album ever, at least in my collection. It΄s the simplicity of the arregements what makes this album so wonderful and colorful. Every little detail, every note, every instrument makes this album be the masterpiece it is. This is definitly a jewel in any kind of genre, be it prog, rock, folk or whatever...(El Bφthy)

#57 Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - Of Natural History
(9 votes - 1640 points) Highest rating: #2 by cookieacquired
Musically, this album is amazingly original to the point where the band has made its own instruments that they play. The underlying tone of the songs usually lies somewhere between sinister and evil, though tongue-in-cheek is also present. Overall I deem this album not to be missed, and urge those who haven't already gotten it to buy it and listen to it. (cookieacquired)

#56 Jethro Tull - A Passion Play
(8 votes - 1641 points) Highest rating: #3 by Draconean
This must be one of the most complex albums ever... The album, because of his (again) complexety and theatrical approach ( A Passion PLAY!), makes the band no longer a folk prog band, but a symphonic one...very very nice!!! (El Bφthy #12)

#55 King Crimson - Lizard
(9 votes - 1650 points) Highest rating: #2 by BigHairyMonster
If progressive rock is supposed to be a mix of rock, jazz and concert hall music, then this album should be the poster child for the genre. What Fripp does on this section is take musical themes that build and contrast with each other, weaving them in and out till it all hits a bursting point. On top of this tightly wound compostion the horn players spit out their chaotic solos, and it is all done with a rock sound and energy. It is the perfect blend of all three elements. (Easy Money #5)

#54 Porcupine Tree - Stupid Dream
(8 votes - 1679 points) Highest rating: #13 by King Crimson776
Porcupine Tree is one of my favorite bands, and I'd have to say this is my favorite album by them. The melodies on this album are just so catchy. (King Crimson 776)

#53 Van der Graaf Generator - Still Life
(9 votes - 1700 points) Highest rating: #2 by Evans, Geck0
If i were to compare Still Life and Godbluff, i would say that Godbluff is the better musically, but that Still Life is the winner by far lyrically. Since this is a prog site and us who really listen to lyrics are in minority, i can see why Godbluff is more popular. If you like Vdgg, you can't really go wrong here. (Evans)

#52 Metallica - ...And Justice For All
(8 votes - 1722 points) Highest rating: #7 by enteredwinter

#51 Genesis - A Trick of the Tail
(9 votes - 1730 points) Highest rating: #32 by kenmartree
The album is very beautiful, and will definitely appeal more to the fan that never got into Peter Gabriel Genesis. The music of the album easily surpasses the vocals and lyrics. The mood is very mellow, 50% twelve string guitar, while the other 50% is keyboards and drums.Overall this album kinda disappointed me at first, but after many close listens, I have come to appreciate the mellow atmosphere and pretty acoustics. (schizoid_man77 #38)

Hopefully there are some more "bookworthy" albums in this bunch:
The begining of the top 50 albums of all time as voted on by you, the PA population:

#50 The Beatles - Abbey Road
(9 votes - 1742 points) Highest rating: #4 by kenmartree
Abbey Road made me appreciate music, it opened my eyes, and no music did ever sound the same afterwards. Abbey Road is the album where the Beatles took every good element from their past and distil them into their absolute masterpiece. There is no way i can give this seminal album anything less than masterpiece rating. (Evans #12)

#49 Radiohead - Kid A
(9 votes - 1770 points) Highest rating: #3 by Heyitsthatguy
With Kid A, Radiohead reached the epitome of what it means to be progressive in the 21st century. Deeply moving and artistic, Kid A pushes the boundaries that have held back not just the band, but music in general. I guess that the dark tone that shrouds this album is what makes it so memorable and relateable. Emotional presence is essential for a masterpiece to contain, and there is no lack of it here. (Moreitsythanyou #4)

#48 Magma - Mekanik Destrukiw Kommandoh
(9 votes - 1795 points) Highest rating: #1 by Shakespeare
I ne'er knew true beauty 'till this...The melodies and arrangements are all mind-blowing, and still interesting after the hundredth listen. The atmosphere is consistently celestial and grandiose. On some moments, you can feel as if the words carry powers of exorcism, as Vander himself has expressed to feel.Mekanοk Destruktοw Kommandφh is unarguably flawless. Enjoying it is only a matter of taste. (Shakespeare)

#47 Opeth - Ghost Reveries
(9 votes - 1801 points) Highest rating: #2 by asimplemistake
Absolutely amazing. Now why is it that Opeth was the first band with screaming/growling I could stand? Well, maybe it's the beautiful soft breaks in many of their heavy songs. Maybe it's the huge dynamic range the band shows. Maybe it's the awesome heavy riffs. Maybe it's that Opeth has a sound that no other band really has. Or it could be I love the sound quality of this album. Actually, I think its all of those (in fact, it is!). (asimplemistkae)

#46 Marillion - Script for a Jester's Tear
(9 votes - 1808 points) Highest rating: #10 by Sleeper
Overall this is quite an amazing album, most definitely one of the strongest debut’s in the prog world, and historically the album that kicked the Neo-prog movement into high gear, even if it wasn't the first one there. Despite its flaws in the rhythm section, this album is stunning because of its immaculately formed songs {sleeper}

#45 Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven
(9 votes - 1811 points) Highest rating: #8 by Man With Hat
This is one of those albums that shakes music to the core, and I am afraid that I can not do this album justice. I still don't think I can capture the pure power of this music in words. This is one of those albums that should be listened to by any person that loves music.Dark, powerful, eerie, beautiful, melancholy...these are only a few adjective to describe the journey this album (and this band in general) take you on. (Man With Hat)

#44 Rush - Moving Pictures
(10 votes - 1816 points) Highest rating: #14 by Markosherrera
Rush combines the advent of synths in the 80's with their classic sound to create their most well known album. Rush combines the use of synthesizers that they first implemented in previous albums to a more dramatic effect with their classic sound to create a balance of technicality, progressiveness, and catchiness. All three members are in top form and have great performances here. (Heyitsthatguy #66)

#43 Van der Graaf Generator - Godbluff
(10 votes - 1891 points) Highest rating: #1 by Draconean
In all of its dark, brooding melody, Godbluff is at heart, a very well written collection of songs. It is highly thematic and expressive. In my opinion, the band is at its musical peak, resulting in four timeless songs that work very well together. A must for any progressive collection, especially for those who enjoy heartfelt despondency and shimmering beauty. (Moreitsythanyou #50)

#42 Porcupine Tree - Deadwing
(10 votes - 1892 points) Highest rating: #13 by darkmatter
Porcupine Tree have created one of the greatest albums of the decade with this one. I agree completely that this is the top prog album of 2005. PT are heavier than ever on this album.Anyway, I highly recomend this album to anyone who goes on this site, so if you don't have it and are looking to get into modern prog, get it. (King Crimson776 #23)

#41 Dream Theater - Scenes from a Memory
(9 votes - 1940 points) Highest rating: #1 by Heyitsthatguy
Its not often that I find an album that I cant find anything wrong with it, even on 5 star albums I will find a small niggling problem, but nothing worth getting hung up over. Here I can find no fault, in my opinion this is the best album that Dream Theater have ever produced and I don’t think they will ever beat it(sleeper #3)

#40 The Mars Volta - De-Loused in the Comatorium
(9 votes - 1946 points) Highest rating: #2 by Heyitsthatguy
This album is, by no doubt in my mind, an Essential addition to any collection. The mars Volta are one of the most original and most important bands of the 21st century and this is, also without a doubt, their seminal album. Its an explosive record with some great atmospheric passages interspersed throughout both the songs and within the songs themselves. This is an essential album for anyone wishing to call themselves a progressive music aficionado and one of the most important releases of the last few decades.(Keiser Willhelm #15)

#39 Pain of Salvation - BE
(9 votes - 1979 points) Highest rating: #4 by Keiser Willhelm, Heyitsthatguy
An over the top yet relevant concept ties in with orchestra backed music to make their most progressive, if perhaps least metal, release in their career. Daniel Gildenlow's vocals shine throughout, from crying the plight of a doomed human race to the snide, condescending, and deliciously self interested musings of a certain Mr. Money. I like this one too (Heyitsthatguy)

#38 Gentle Giant - In a Glass House
(11 votes - 1990 points) Highest rating: #1 by Atavachron
An outfit so well-versed in myriad musics and so able to pull the very best from each member, that there are moments on this 1973 release that dwarf contemporaries and make Yes and Tull look like schoolchildren. Consequently, there is not a slow or insignificant moment on 'In a Glass House' and it remains the enormous masterwork it was then. This band is a glory to behold and we're left wondering why other prog acts so consistantly took the spotlight of history. No matter really, Gentle Giant made great records for us to enjoy forever. It doesn't get any better.(Atavachron)

#37 Ayreon - The Human Equation
(10 votes - 2042 points) Highest rating: #3 by Lofcaudio
This album grabbed me in the very first listen (not always a good thing) and has continued to thrill my ears on subsequent listens (definitely a good thing). With every song being loaded with numerous vocalists, there is never a dull moment despite the length of the entire album. I highly recommend this piece of art. It has left me stunned. (Lofcaudio)

#36 Van der Graaf Generator - H to He Who Am the Only One
(10 votes - 2072 points) Highest rating: #5 by Man With Hat
I don't know exactly why, but I find this to be a very enjoyable album to listen to. I enjoy its operatic and majestic nature which can switch from introspective musings to bombastic proclaimations. Truly an epic album of expression and creativity, which contains my favorite songs by Van der Graaf Generator. Although I feel that the band had progressed from here as musicans, this is the album I always find myself coming back to. (Moreitsythanyou #30)

#35 Premiata Forneria Marconi - Per Un Amico
(11 votes - 2127 points) Highest rating: #7 by Martinn
Per Un Amico is widely regarded as the landmark Italian Symphonic album. Its five songs range from exciting to haunting to beautiful. It proves that great music can surpass language barriers remains an excellent example of symphonic rock today, even against the British favorites. (Moreitsythanyou #92)

#34 Yes - The Yes Album
(14 votes - 2180 points) Highest rating: #5 by Atavachron
My introduction to the wonderful world that is Yes, and it couldn’t have been a better one. “The Yes album” may not be as colossal as "Close to the edge", "Tales..." or “Relayer” and yes, Tony Kaye obviously is not Rick Wakeman, but I still like it , and a lot. A classic!!! (El Bφthy #29)

#33 Pain of Salvation - The Perfect Element Part 1
(10 votes - 2233 points) Highest rating: #1 by Sleeper
On creating The Perfect Element Part 1 it appears that Pain of Salvation have created the perfect album. To me its a deep and emotionally involving concept that draws you in and makes you feel for the characters. In-fact this concept is the key to why I enjoy this album so much. The Perfect Element is one of those strange albums that proves to be the easiest starting point for the band in question whilst holding such huge reserves of emotional and musical depth that it remains as a fast favourite. (sleeper)

#32 Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin IV (Zoso)
(11 votes - 2242 points) Highest rating: #3 by 1800iareyay, EnglishAssassin)
This is arguably the greatest rock record ever recorded, i certainly consider it so. Led Zeppelin at their finest. Stunning effort. i have owned this since the tender age of 7 and have enjoyed every year of it. hasnt gotten old yet! essential for ANY music fan, prog or otherwise. (Keiser Willhelm #6)

#31 Opeth - Still Life
(11 votes - 2273 points) Highest rating: #1 by enteredwinter
This is one of the very few albums that felt life-changing to me upon first hearing it. It was like nothing I had ever heard before, and I loved it. If metal (or prog-metal) is something you enjoy generally and if you can stomach the growl-vocals then what you will find is some extraordinarily well-written music within this album. There is an unbelievably well-done blend of intense growl/distortion parts mixed with clean-vocal/acoustic-guitar parts.(enteredwinter)
