http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=450 - MAGENTA

In light of their up and coming album, Metamorphosis, I though of doing a poll about this band.

With Magenta I had this partial affection for them, liking some of their output and disliking some of the other. However, they are quite the popular band (relatively) and I do appreciate their musicianship.
I am however looking forward to their new album quite a lot!

What do you think about their albums? Like it? any favourite?

Magenta plays a nice art-rock under a strong Genesis influence (and not only Genesis, but all 70's art rock, I suppose). As a matter of fact, all the albums are good equally, but I like Seven most of all and Revolutions is a nice debut as well. I enjoy watching The Gathering DVD immensely, but haven't got Metamorphosis yet, so my vote goes for Seven at the moment.

Seven for me--Revolutions a close second. I'm hoping they can recapture some of their swagger with Metamorphosis because Home/New York Suite was weak, in my opinion.

Yeah, it seems that Seven (even my daughters like it!) is their acme but I have not yet heard Metamorphosis. Revolutions was a pretty good debut with 4 epic long tracks .

Seems like there is a general consensus on this one. "Revolutions" is good, "Seven" is great, and "Home" is a letdown.

Perhaps now would be a better time for this poll after Metamorphosis had time to get more exposure and listening time.

Anyone has anything to say/add?

I only have the most recent two (surprisingly difficult to get ahold of the first two here) and Metamorphosis is considerably sttronger than Home, which is rather weak.

I just got Metamorphosis in the post yesterday and only had time to give it one listen, so for now, Seven is still my favorite.  However, on first listen I can already tell it is far superior to Home.  Whether better than Seven or not remains to be seen, but at least it is in the same class as their first two cds.  I'll hold off voting until I've had a bit more time to give it a few proper listens.

I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

It took me about 5-6 listens of Metamorphosis before getting more into it; up to that point I just thought it was good and better than previous releases, but not something I would listen to many more times. Now, I think it sunk really well; the title track is quite well done. One thing that I don't like so much is Christina's vocals. Though beautiful, I feel this music needs another type of female vocals; more deep and low than hers.

Now that I heard Metamorphosis and even reviewed it satisfactorily , I can conclude that it comes in number 2 , still behind the glorious "Seven", which I believe to be one of the best "neo" (hate that term) release, along with Collage's Moonshine, ICU's Now & Here and Moria Falls' The Long Goodbye, as well as some recent jewels (Satellite, Believe, Galahad, The Gift,etc...)

I love Metamorphosis...one of my favourite albums of 2008, and the album I know best by them. Like Seven, but will need to give it more airplay.

By now it's evident to me that Metamorphosis is better than Seven, but I don't know them all to be honest.
