Well I've reached one of those points where I don't know what kind of new music to look for.  So I figured I'd ask for recommendations to a couple of my favorite bands: Anathema and Riverside.  I'm looking for something on a similar emotional level as these two bands, but less on the metal side.  Also, something that sounds atmospheric.

To clarify a little, I listen to Alternative 4 and later by Anathema, so I'm not looking for anything doom metal.  My favorite Anathema albums are Judgement and A Natural Disaster, and I like all of Riverside's albums.

At the moment I plan to look into Sylvan.  Any other recommendation are welcomed.  Thanks!

I haven't heard the album, but how about Indukti?  Doesn't that feature Mariusz Duda on vocals?

DM, you should start off with Posthumous Silence or Artificial Paradise. Those two are the best.

I've actually have Indukti's album, and it's excellent!

I was looking at Posthumous Silence, so I'll probably end up getting that sometime soon.

This band is not in PA (don't really think it should), but if you like Riverside and especially Anathema you should really check Antimatter.

I've had an Antimatter album on my iPod for a while now, but I haven't given it many listens, so I will right now.

Try out Sieges Even. They're another good melodic prog metal band.

I have The Art of Navigating by the Stars, but I haven't liked it that much, though I've given it very few listens since I got it.  I'll try and give it a few more listens.  Which of their other albums would you recommend?

The art... or Paramount should probably appeal to you after a while...

As for Sylvan, Artificial Paradise is a decent album, X-Rayed is not that good...

I just picked up Paramount on my lunch hour. They're not my favorite, but there's something I like about them. They have a good sense of melody without overdoing it.

I strongly suggest Katatonia's The Great Cold Distance.  Similar to Opeth, Porcupine Tree, Riverside stylistically but with shorter, more concise songs than Opeth, and without the death vocals.  One of my favorite albums in this style.  You also may want to check one of their other albums, Last Fair Deal Gone Down

Sylvan's Posthumous Silence is also amazing.
