Howdy all! I came across this Canadian five piece recently and wondered how they didn't make any waves on this site! I think these guys would make an excellent addition to Space rock as they've done a great job mixing some of the styles of modern rock music with the old space prog stylings of old. While I haven't heard their new album, their first album is very very good with some great progressive pieces on it. I am definitely interested by this band, but I haven't really seen anything to warrant an inclusion on PA, although I have yet to hear their second album. ------------- let's just stay above the moral melee prefer the sink to the gutter keep our sand-castle virtues content to be a doer as well as a thinker, prefer lifting our pen rather than un-sheath our sword |

| The second album is pretty progressive, IMHO- there's a pretty good epic on it called 'Bright Lights'. Hard to say what they sound like; I guess they are like a cross between Tangerine Dream and Black Sabbath! |

| Saw their second album in the shops, and there was a reference to prog written on a sticker on the cover... I was intrigued, but of course before I invest any of my hard-earned cash, I'd rather listen to the MySpace samples. |

| As I promised, I listened to the four MySpace tracks, and was favourably impressed. I'll post a link to this thread in the Heavy Prog Team thread, and see what David has to say about them. They also sound like very interesting people, working with the less fortunate of us... There was a feature about them in one of the last issues of Classic Rock magazine as well, now that I remember. |

"Druganaut" sounds like Black Sabbath plagiarising In Rock-era Deep Purple to me. Even the title is Sabbath-esque as in "Supernaut". I've nothing against it, it sounds like good old 70s heavy rock, which I like. Are these any more progressive than Purple or Sabbath? I think not.... |

the video on their site doesn't do them justice and the debut album is not terribly proggie.. but the myspace cuts from the new release are quite good HeavyProg and I will seriously consider having them thanks King ByTor and Raffaella for the heads-up |

I'm all up for their addition to PA. As opposed to many here in PA, I've only heard their second album and not their debut. In The Future can be seen as prog rock album or at least prog enough to be included here in PA. Aside from their notable Sabbath influences they also have a fair amount of psychedelic and space rock in their sound as well as some simple, but noticeable, prog moments. Judging by their second album I'd be willing to add them in Psych / Space Rock, but I'll need to listen to their debut just to be sure. -------------

I still need to check out their debut first. The female singer reminds me a lot to Grace Slick and there are some tasty mellotron and hammond parts on their album which I quickly fell in love with. -------------

Black Mountain is definitely prog. Their tunes are very eclectic, it would be hard to get a feel for them with just two. There is some heavy Sabbath influence, keyboards from early ELP, hints of Pink Floyd, etc. There are some headbanging tunes, and same spacey psychedelic tunes. The female vocalist has a very haunting melodic voice, reminds me a bit of Kristen Hersh from Throwing Muses. Some stuff reminds me of Porcupine Tree. A very diverse blend of stuff. I heard one album of theirs and promptly ordered the rest of the discography. It's all amazing. |

as far as I know, Ruben wants them for Psych after we decided they were more Psych than Heavy.. they just need to be added, though I don't see them on the Psych chart so the team may need more time to discuss |

Personally after having listened to their first and their latest album (roughly seven times each), I hear a 70's rock wannabe group that doesn't haveall that much to say and not really progressive. Only their 13 minutes song (the second-last on the new album) offers some real interplay.
