Dunno if these guys belong in the archives, but they're at least as
prog as a lot of the prog-metal bands here. They're prog/death,
but not in the same way Opeth is. Tons of AMAZING keyboard work. They're called Sigh, they're from Japan, and their best album is Imaginary Sonicscape. FANTASTIC band! I have all of their albums, even their Venom-influenced debut "Scorn Defeat" on vinyl. I wouldn't really compare them to Opeth, other than complexity. Sigh are much more eclectic and draw on a more black metal influence, as well as horror soundtracks and 70s rock (of course). Someone once described Sigh as what early-Genesis would have sounded like had they played black metal. Listening to songs like "Shingontachikawa" (from Ghastly Funeral theatre) makes it hard to disagree. And I wouldn't say IS is their best album... It's definitely "Hail Horror Hail"! |
