I know, weird topic. Think about it, though. Are there any albums that you own yet don't actually have? For example, let's look at the following:

If you have this collection, you technically own "National Health," "Of Queues and Cures" and "D.S. al Coda." And yet, you don't really have those albums.

Another example:

If you own this, you have "The Cry of Love" and then some. But, again, you don't actually have that album.

So, what other examples can you offer of this particular phenomenon? How do you feel about this? Did you get a nifty new collection or are you being unfair to the spirit of the original release?

This one:

It's a compilation of Math Rock band Chavez' two albums and two EPs, aswell as a DVD containing tour clips etc. I'd like to get hold of the actual albums too, some day.

Also, speaking of Hendrix, the reissue of Are You Experienced? also includes the three singles released prior to that album.

Queensryche's Operation:LIVEcrime has Mindcrime in its entirety so technically I have OM, even if its on OL. ANother example is that I have Marillions Marbles Live rather than Marbles.

Well, count me in as owning the National Health Complete - that's a financial no-brainer.  I've split the tracks on my iPod such that they are associated with their proper albums.  I have no qualms about not getting the individual albums, either.  As long as I have all the music I'm not really concerned how it's packaged.  Recently I've been acquiring a lot of good albums through emusic, so there I don't even have anything physical.

I have Camel's The Snow Goose in its live version, featured on the second disc of A Live Record. Therefore, I own it, though not in the original studio recording.

I don't believe that has all of Marbles on it. Then again, neither does my f**king single disc retail version. Angry

I have the Styx Wooden Nickel Recordings, which means that I have the first 4 Styx albums, although I don't actually have the first 4 Styx albums.  I believe that this is what it meant by the OP.

I just thought of a few more:

Miles Davis Box Sets- Because of these, I own "On the Corner" and "A Tribute to Jack Johnson."

Two-fers: Like Triana, Crucis and the Beach Boys, for instance.

Does this count with stuff like digital music? Because in that case I own at least 150 albums which I don't physically have.

Also include in this the compilation from Spirogyra, A Canterbury Tale, which contains all three of their studio releases.  I had ordered Bells, Boots, and Shambles separately - in the future I will have to remember to check if a band has one of these compilations as they are very efficient, economically speaking.  For example, in the future I will probably get the Comus compilation Logan mentions above.

edit:  thought that News From Babel only did two albums, because PA lists only two, but the first is a 2 in 1 - hence Sirens and Silences/Work Resumed on the Tower.  Therefore what Logan mentions is a compilation which itself contains a compilation.  Big%20smile

I own some albums which I never got back from former friends Angry I own them, but don't possess them.

Well, my own fault, and I myself have... at least a few albums and books, which I didn't yet Embarrassed ... give back...

For the rest: I have all the tracks of Camel's Moonmadness: some tracks are on A Live Record, some on Echoes (sampler) and I got Aristillus somewhere also. I don't own the album itself.

I just love Spirogyra's albums -- A Canterbury Tale would have been a good way to go.  Interesting about News From Babel, the first S&S/WRotT really I should have treated as one album in two parts.  It's only 34:47 in total time, and Letters Home is slightly longer.

The good thing about Song to Comus isn't so much that it includes To Keep From Crying, it's the bonus tracks on the first disc, which I didn't have, and are very good.

Now if only they'd come out with a similar compilation CD for Jan Dukes de Grey.  While I do have Mice and Rats in the Loft, I have yet to get Sorcerers.

I own Led Zep's I, II, III, Physical Grafitti and Presence but not IV.

Rainbow's debut but don't have Rising and LLR&R since I sold them.

Audioslave Revelevations but don't have their debut neither Out of Exile.

Inxs Kick but don't have X or Listen like Thieves.

Dire Straits' Love over Gold and On Every Street but don't have Brother in Arms!

Ac/Dc Back in Black, Ballbreaker, High Voltage and Jailbreak 74' but don't have Highway to Hell!

Bad Company Straight Shooter but not their debut.

Well if this thread was some months ago, pff, I would have an infinite list with Yes, Genesis, ELP, Floyd, Supertramp, Camel, Jethro Tull, King Crimson and some more!

Personally I hate when they add more songs to what was a perfectly great album...........I have never found any additions to improve the original (except Band of Gypsies by Jimi Hendrix. The original was great and so was the full concert version, which was much longer.)

Don't worry about it, those Gong albums aren't very good. Wink
