As much as I love that Sabbath (its my fave of theirs), King's X is one of my all time favorite bands (and maybe in my top 3 live acts), and Gretchen is one of their best.

So...Gretchen, hands down.

They are pretty damn good and Gretchen is a masterpiece.  That's where my vote goes.

Gretchen is a hell of a lot better. But then again who really gives a F*** what I think.

Sabotage is much better than Sabbath Bloody Sabbath

It doesn't seem quite right for someone to vote for Sabbath just because they haven't heard of King's X. I think the point of the poll was to vote for who you prefer. If you don't know one of the 'candidates' I don't think an objective choice can be made but I guess that's democracy for you.LOL

Sabbath Bloody Sabbath was for me the beginning of BS's decline, it seems that drugs had taken too much control over them at this time (my favorite 70's Sabbath album is Volume 4)
as for King's X I liked 'em a lot then and I like 'em still now (I have most of their albums as well as sideprojects) and for me Gretchen is much better than SBS (even if it has some classic songs on it)

Gotta be Gretchen.

I remember being blown away by Kings X when they backed ACDC (or was it Aerosmith) at the King's Hall in Belfast. Instant convert. Always a good sign when you can't remmber the headliner. Just like the time Tesla backed somebody at the Ulster Hall.

It's always good to get all your facts straight and accurate.

I know both candidates and have for years .. for me this is a very close poll Kings X win it though because of the vocal quality and over all lyrical consciousness, I find more to look into with them spiritually, their music makes me feel good and doesn't seem to make my day seem gray.

I agree with you Dr there are some similarities, mostly the ton of bottom end that both supply.I actually prefer the bass in KING X but prefer Ozzy's vocals and Iommi's guitar.

I think one of the big differences in the two bands is that Sabbath always portrayed the dark, occult side of things while K X has kind of a Christian outlook. Surprisingly the music has similarities.

Really tough one.

Gretchen is probably the more consistent of the two but SBS has more enduring classics.

I voted for Sabbath Bloody Sabbath anyway but it's tough to separate the two.

A friend borrowed me that King's X album a year and a half ago, I listened to it once or twice and can't remember liking it much. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath on the other hand is a marvellous album.

I don't want to pick Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, because I plain don't like half the album. Ozzy is at his best vocally, though. Which is not saying much, but I am too lazy to listen to the opposition. I'll withhold my vote for now.

King's X is as dull and boring a band as I've ever heard... It's not even bad... or terrible... it's just the musical description of plain, bland.... nothingless described....

I thought that was the description that was applied to DT.  Watch what you say.  If you don't like how people talk about your favorite band, don't turn around and do the same sh*t to others.

I've read words like mine referring to DT about 200 times in just a month....

believe me... I give the same damn about what people say about my favorite band as people should give about what I think of their favorite band.

So I'll say what I want. I'm done with certain ways here.

Guys, guys King's X and Dream Theater are both incredibly bland, uninspired, and boring. No need to argue about it.

Yeah, that era of Sabbath was kind to Ozzy. Too bad it wasn't kind to...anyone else in Black Sabbath. I've said it before. It is a sad, sad day when my favorite part of a Black Sabbath album is Ozzy's vocal delivery...

King's X self-titled album, 'faith hope love', 'gretchen goes to nebraska' and 'XV' are all 4-5 stars albums. I have to give another chance to 'dogman' as it is often regarded as one of their best.
Beatles playing bluesy hard-rock.
I don't really see the connection with Black Sabbath.

What I have heard by King's X was very good (the first two albums so far), though I have some trouble in seeing their relation to Prog (have to listen more carefully, that's for sure). However, Black Sabbath are by far one of the most influential bands ever, and at least one of their albums features in my all-time favourites list (Heaven and Hell, in case you were wondering). So, I'm afraid there is really no contest here for meWink.

Any argument to explain your point of view ? King's X produced some of the best hard-rock ever. Dream Theater are a landmark band in the realm of prog metal.  Albums like 'Images and words' and 'Awake' are true masterpieces. Yes, they show off a lot but there is also melody in their music.

WTF? This is like comparing Deep Purple and Queen's Reich, or Uriah Heep and  Fate's Warning. They're worlds (and generations) apart. What's the point?
