http://sool4jo.tistory.com/426 - Gusano Mecanico (Edit: link to free stream of the full album)) from 1974 is a brilliant heavy/psych-prog album.
Clipped from http://www.thomashayes.com/reissues/never/ - thomashayes.com (sorry 'bout the bold fonts)
Climax - Gusano Mecanico (Bolivia) 1974. An extraordinary recent
discovery. Mostly instrumental over 6 long tracks with blazing guitar -
played avant style ala Pinhas or Fripp at times. Best album I've heard
from Bolivia outlasting the also excellent debut by Wara. LP reissue is
out on World in Sound, so I suspect they will also cover the CD soon.
Great Escher cover would be an excellent candidate for a Japanese
mini-LP too!

For sure this is one of the obscurest and most excessive South American
heavy-progressive rock albums of the early 70s. The Bolivian power-trio
released "Gusano Meche British Rock invasion, on groups like Led
Zeppelin, Cream and Emerson Lake & Palmer, but also on American
heavy guitar sound like Hendrix or Blue Cheer. This concept album
contains 6 songs which are long compositions with extended instrumental
parts - of the sound is extremely energetic with various of dynamic
changes, you hear creative heavy guitar riffs & psychedelic solos,
fast and furious drums (double bass) and complicated basslines. The
south American wildness and the excellent musicianship make this album
to an unique psychedelic masterpiece with various of interesting
influences. This reissue is a mastertape release (excellent sound),
presented with the original cover-artwork. As bonus, a 4 track 7" EP
with picture sleeve (English lyrics), recorded in 1969/70. Highly
recommended - originals in good condition are nearly impossible to
find!

I just stumbled over this site while looking for a myspace, homepage or whatever kind of place with legal samples.
The long title track Gusano Mecánico a) Invasión b) Dominio c) Abandono
is probably my favorite, but opener smokes too, and the rest of the
album, really. Its the best rockin' prog I've heard in a long
time.

Yes, thanks! That's what I thought too. I take it you also experienced that these hidden, rare gems aren't always as great as this one. A first edition of this album seems to have gone for http://www.popsike.com/php/detaildata.php?itemnr=4041129153 - 1000$ in 2004 . And back then 1000$ was a lot of money to pay for an album.
Heavy prog it is then..
