This contest has been a bust so far, partially because I've been too lazy to frame this in a an interesting way providing cases for both in the initial post, and because, well, my choices haven't always been that good, but this one is the best match-up so far, in my opinion. Here's the results so far:
If I feel so inclined, I might do a secondary contest between the two "losers" who have the highest percentile of votes in the contests. For instance, Roine Stolt has done best of those at 24.24% and Toby Driver the second best at 21.05% thus far. I encourage those who are not reasonably familiar with both artists in the poll not to vote ( a good rule when voting for politicians too -- if not sufficiently aware/ well-versed, it's your patriotic duty not to vote... Better still to educate oneself using a wide variety of sources). ------------- Just a fanboy passin' through. |

Wow, good matchup. They're both among my favorite guitarists, composers, and musicians of all time... but I have to vote for Frith.

While I respect Frith immensely, Robert is just iconic, sardonic, sadistic, majestic, caustic and melodic in a way that few can comprehend , let alone master. He is not an easy piece of pastry, either what with his finger pointing at the industry. Amazingly complex fellow and the most influential rock guitarist since Jimi. ------------- I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth. |

Frith, because even though he seems to be using the same guitar tone on most/all of the releases I've heard from him, I do not like Fripp at all. ------------- if you own a sodastream i hate you |

"You must be joking, take a running jump" Genesis lyric From his early acoustic tendencies, infused with searing (21st Century) leads and then getting jazzier and symphonic (Sailor's Tale ) , followed by the sheer onslaught of Larks, Starless and Red , plus countless succulent guest solos (Baby's on Fire, among many others ) . Frippertronic soundscapes, teaching guitar with lessons, getting into lightly punk universes, countless recent innovations. Plus he was the first to openly attack the ''system''. And i saw him stand up once and we , the audience were bewildered.  Who knows?------------- I never post anything anywhere without doing more than basic research, often in depth. |
