This poll has some similarities to my "New Age of Earth vs. Blackouts" poll ( http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=53469 - http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=53469 ):
Again two albums by a lesser-known band are pitted against each other and they again were published on two consecutive years.

For me it's a tough choice. Of Sea Shanties I really enjoy Death Warmed Up, Walking Down Their Outlook and Nowhere most. (The other tracks are good too). On High Tide The Joke and Saneonimous stand out for me. Since Saneonimous is by far my favorite High Tide song I will go with the 2nd Album, High Tide.

What about you?

For me the second album is their best. A matter of taste i suppose, but for me it's better in almost every way including sound quality.

Both are excellent, but Sea Shanties has a special place in my heart.

tough poll, but I voted for "Sea Shanties".
an interesting poll would have been "Sea Shanties"  versus Khan's "Space Shanty". I really would have had to pass on that one; both are among my most favorite albums of all time

Tough poll indeed! Though both albums are excellent, I felt I had to vote for Sea Shanties, on account of its ground-breaking quality, as well as of the awesome instrumental "Death Warmed Up". Their self-titled album, however, is far superior in terms of sound quality, in spite of being rather too short.

Space Shanty and Sea Shanties, you don't see any connection?

Voted the debut, but Saneonymous might just be my favorite track by them as well.

Debut, hands down. High Tide is fun, and maybe more personal at points, but all the heaviness and catchy riffage and what not is on Shanties.

Best album of '69! Well...barring Stand Up and that Crimson thing and whatnot.

This is...interesting. Who knew fourteen people cared enough about High Tide?

Wish a ton more did, to me they are the hight of heavy prog.  Both are absolutely amazing albums (given both 5s), Blankman Cries Again is probably my favorite Tide song so i gave the self titled an ever so slight edge.

Indeed; High Tide is a Highly underrated band. Maybe not the most (that'd be the Procolers)...but they're up there, in my opine.

they are indeed too little known. when I joined the archives in 2005 they had not been included yet, so I had to suggest them

The fact that you don't find any High Tide lyrics on the web also shows how little they are known. Since more people answered & voted in this topic, I want to use the oppotunity to post this link to an older post of mine:

http://www.progarchives.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=52359&KW=

That topic is about the exact lyrics of Saneonimous (I#m just curious about them). I didn't get any replies back then, maybe I'll get some now! Smile

I voted for Sea Shanties, because it's more consistent than High Tide. (Sorry, but Saneonimous is overlong)

My favorite track: Any of the first 3 from Sea Shanties.

Their second and last album is amazing, one of my favorite prog albums. Very underrated band.
