I voted Zamla but Samla Mammas Mannas
Snorungarnas Symfoni then Bo Hanssons Lord of
the RIngs then SMMs Klossa Knapitatet or
Ragnaroks debut are the best studio albums from
the 70s!

great and necessary thread, but we cant comment
on Wigwam or Pekka Pohjola from Finland; Aunt
Mary or Host from Norway; Secret Oyster, Thors
Hammer or Klaus Schonning from Denmark!
Besides Bergt Berger from Sweden isnt here
either!

Samla Mammas Manna!!... and its Zamla Mammaz Manna variation, of course, which I find even weirder and better - I am a challenge friendly listener.

Anglagard is the best by far, after the 80's, when I had lost confidence in listening a great band again came Hybris and changed my perspective.

Also Par Lindh (Pure Gothic Prog -my own genre. ), Anekdoten, Samla Mammaz Manna, etc.

Swedish Prog' is one of y favorites.

Landberk - although far from my favourites

Morte Macabre???

Date Posted: April 22 2005 at 04:51

Just realised a serious omission: Jens Johnsson - Heavy Machinery, Fission,  extensive work with his brother Anders and Jonas Hellborg (and I don't mean with Yngwie Malmsteen or Stratocrapius), two tremendous recorded performances with Bill Berends guesting with  Mastermind (i.e. Excelsior, Angel Of the Apocalypse).....................

And as they as touring the UK very soon it is worth mentioning EST!!!

Well, mister, not every Prog band has to sound the same. And POS is about as innovative as you get these days.

I bought their debut for a few days ago, and it really does a good job
mixing Änglagård/crimsonic influences with alternative rock I otherwise
don't touch. Not spectacular, but a decent and promising debut
nonetheless.

Err... I'm certainly not an expert in Swedish prog, so forgive my
ignorance, but: Weather Report????? Is this a prog band named as
Zawinul's & Shorter's fusion supergroup, or is it a typo? Just curious...

Otherwise, my vote goes to Anglagard --- I'm thankful to ProgArchives
for making me discover them!

Kultivator and Myrbein were both great groups. Both had influences from Zeuhl.

I also like these two but OT are definitely not neo-prog. They sound space rock to me.

Ozric Tentacles are probably the furthest thing from neo-prog I've ever heard.

Kebnekaise is a classic, but i miss A.C.T in this poll!!

It's hard to choose one though. Samla Mammas Manna, Fläsket Brinner, Bo Hansson, Hansson & Karlsson, Isildurs Bane...

Anyways, I would have chosen Pain of Salvation and Opeth as a runner up.

Jodå, plus Andromeda and Pain of Salvation... Anekdoten got my vote, but it's  really a tie between them and Flower Kings. Andromeda, A.C.T. or PoS would've got it if they were in the list.
Karmakanic seems like an intersting band, too! I'll try to keep a closer watch on them... nothing with Jonas Reingold could go wrong.
