Time to shake things up a bit. These are all songs I did not like the first time or two I heard them, but I really enjoy them now.
Which one do you like best?
(And no, I'm not joking about #5)

Maybe it's just me but I never got into "A Passion play".

Take The Veil for me. I liked as soon as I heard it though. I have a thing for bass jamming

From this list I like 'Anesthetize' the most, followed by 'Ace of Wands'.
'Take the Veil Cerpin Taxt' may be a bit irritating at whiles, but in general I like it.
'Going for the One' remains a matter of dislike on a four-star album.

Some of these are really good songs!
Take the Veil, however, was the first Volta song I had ever heard... and I listened to it like 7 times in a row just because it was so awesome. So I'll go with that.

I haven't heard the Kansas, Steve Hackett, or Porcupine Tree ones yet. All the other ones I had absolutely no problem getting into at the get go. Although now I don't like The Mars Volta at all, so were the question "which of these initially-liked song do you not like now?" my vote would go to Take the veil Cerpin Taxt.

"take the veil..." takes the cake; it's just an awesome song, probably their best.

I really like "Proclamation" -- always have. I particularly like "Just The Same / Proclamation" off Playing the Fool.
------------- Watching while most appreciating a sunset in the moment need not diminish all the glorious sunsets I have observed before. It can be much like that with music for me.

That is a very notable composition.
Proclamation was a huge contender for my choice as well. This was a good poll.

The Barbarian, a fine song even if it is a semi-ripoff of Bartok. I've given up on APP.

I voted for Proclamation. I used to hate Gentle Giant, but now I really love them.
In fact I like all of these except Take the veil Cerpin Taxt which I hated on first listening and it went downhill from there. If anyone ever plays it to me again I will have to kill them.

The question isn't "which of these if any did you not like at first but now like?", it's, "These are songs I didn't like at first but now I do... which is your favorite?" So yeah, I've always loved The Light by SB, that's my choice.

I think I was the same with "Anesthetize". The first time I heard it, I was like "I don't see all the hype about this song".
Then I heard it again. OMG IT WAS AWESOME!
And I haven't heard enough on this list to say much.

ELP's the Barbarian, has got to be my most listened to song of all time. It's what helped me to really get into prog. To have listened to it as many times as I have and not get tired of it is the definition of classic. It's easily the most intense song on the list and I love intensity.(thanks in large part to Mr. Palmer)

Interesting poll this one, Robert.
I know some of these, and all I know, I like! My faves in order:-
1. In The Flesh
2. Anaesthetize
3. Barbarian
4. Magnum Opus (are you sure you didn't like that one initially Robert ?)
5. Going For The One
I like The Light, but it's probably my least favourite on the album.

Hey Roger- hope all is well in the perpetually sunny England
I have loved Kansas from the first time I heard them, but the first several times I heard Magnum Opus beyond "Howlin' at the Moon," I was like, "This is the weirdest stuff they've ever done. I'll never listen to it again."
Chalk that up to another lie I've told myself.

Thanks Robert.
It is a lovely sunny day here, only problem is it's about freezing point!! Hope Orlando is a bit warmer.
Incidentally, a few weeks back you mentioned the "interesting" lyrics by Neal Morse in "The Water". You're right, they don't really sit square with his religious image .

I've heard all but one and I can't honestly say I hated any of them when I first heard them. Although I wasn't particularly impressed with Going For The One. Volta is the one band I haven't become acquainted with. Proclamation actually hooked me on Gentle Giant. Love all of Passion Play including the silly bits. Magnum Opus is certainly worthy of coming in low in the poll especially the live Two For The Show version. I just put on The Barbarian, not sure what there isn't to like about that one. Ace Of Wands kicks ass. No problems with Anethetize, didn't numb me at all. In The Flesh is not a favorite from that album, but we're going to have to put you up against the wall. And though I haven't become a big SB fan, The Light's OK with me.

I like lots of those song on first listen. Proclamation is one of my favorites and it took a little time to grow on me (though I did initially like it) so I go for GG again.

Voted Porcupine Tree. I wasn't really a fan of Fear of a blank planet at first, but after some more listens, I really like it.

I actually like all of them very well from the beginning on.
But "Proclamation" and "Passion Play 2" are my favorites; I'll take the latter as the hare story is so great.

Of those listed The Mars Volta song is my favorite, however I voted for the one that suits the topic more.
"In the Flesh". I did not like that song, and that band very much at first. I didn't even like it when Dream Theater covered it and I was a fan of theirs then.
However, come time and new ears I began enjoying the song quite a lot. And then we got married.
