Here are two great albums, both albums are heavy and epic. And both have their amazing moments. Just curious to see which album people prefer. Tool is way more popular but Isis one the great bands of today.

I wish I could vote Lateralus and be a Tool  fanboy, but alas, I haven't heard Panopticon. However, I sincerely doubt anything could be better than perfection. Tongue

*Puts Panopticon on 'to get' list.

Tool are big fans of Isis' music, and vice-versa. They are both great bands and albums, but the problem with Isis is in my opinion the'r albums become repetetive after the first few listens. Not enough variety between the songs.

Plus I happen to think La te ra lus is the greatest Prog Rock album of all time, so yeah . . . can't really top it if someone is as big of a Tool freak as I am.

It's a toughy. But I'm afraid Lateralus is the most interesting, although Panopticon is one of Post-Metal's finest albums as well.

Lateralus, but I do like Isis a lot. Panopticon has some really epic moments, especially the climax in In Fiction. Still, with songs like The Grudge, Schism, Parabola, Lateralus, Reflection etc. it's pretty hard to beat such an album.

Damn, I love going for the under-dogs in these polls, but Panopticon just cant edge out such an incredible album as lateralus. Both groups are wonderful, and did a lot as far as my musical growth goes, But a masterpiece is a masterpiece.

I'll break away from the general mold here.
Panopticon from me.
I love both albums, but Panopticon is the more powerful of the two for me.

To be fair, I hear a lot of people, just as many as they ones that talk about Isis in that way, that think Tool songs become repetitive.
The whole point of Isis is about repetition to an extent, otherwise it wouldn't be really post metal would it?Wink
That said, I think both bands are hugely creative and neither sound repetitive to the point of losing it for me.

Well Tool and Lateralus for that matter is awesome.  Isis is boring, and I'd much rather hear In Absence... instead.
