Anyone ever heard of these guys?  I got an advance copy of Melora Creager's second solo album a while ago and it blew me away!  Now I'm scrounging around to find all the stuff Rasputina put out.  Duel cellos with a sound that is sort of a mix of Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Faun Fables and the Decemberists, only with lots of cellos and corsets.

Listen  http://www.myspace.com/rasputina - here and http://www.rasputina.com/audibles.html - here .

Turns out this Melora Creager is about my age and grew up an hour away from where I did, smack in the middle of Kansas; small world.

Yeah, Melora toured with Nirvana then went on to form her own band. I picked up "Thanks for the Ether" in 1996, they were touring with Marilyn Manson.  Their EP "Transylvanian Regurgitations" was mixed by Manson and Twiggy Ramirez...

Shortly after that NIN drummer Chris Vrenna joined them as the drummer and producer and he helped them with alot of creative input with the electronic effects and distortion they previously had been playing around with on the EP I mentioned... His contributions to their sound can be found on their second album "How We Quit the Forest"...

I have the above mentioned albums and their EPs:
"The Lost & Found" EP
"My Fever Broke" EP

Their next two full lengths:
"Cabin Fever"
"Frustation Planet" (which is a double cd) ..

After "Frustation Planet" in 2004, they had alot of difficulties and was rumored to be dissolving so I haven't kept up with them after that, but looking now it looks like they've released two new full length albums in 2007 and a new one this year...

"Oh Perilous World"
"Sister Kinderhook"

Another album you may enjoy was released in 1997, Lili Haydn's "Lili"

Her next album wasn't anything like "Lili" and it isn't recommended...

I've listened to them before and they are enjoyable. I only have "Thanks for the Ether", but its still neat to listen to.
