Mare was a short-lived band that released only one EP in their existence (back in 2004). They combined celestial vocal lines/harmonies (almost like Radiohead meets Kayo Dot) and beautiful posty kind of stuff with thick, heavy, sludgy riffs in the vein of the frontman's old band The End. It's got some avant-garde and jazz fluorishes in there too. Words are hard to use to explain why this band stood out from the other post-metal bands, but I think they clearly were a singular band, and one that deserves to be here.

Their myspace page has a couple of tracks on it from the EP, "Palaces" and "Tropics." I think they are fair indicators for the team, but hearing the whole EP would be worthwhile.

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS BANd!!!!!!
its a shame they broke up, this is one of the few post/sludge bands i got really excited about back in the day.
but since they've only released one EP and no full length album i dont think they qualify for entry.
