Ahh... Yet another beautiful Spring morning here in the UK (it won't last, I'm sure!). To celebrate I'm currently listening to Spring Song by Gryphon (from their oft-misunderstood final album Treason). Can anyone think of any other prog songs that are either lyrically and/or musically inspired by this season? If so, do share.

"Vert" by Harmonium is one. I'm not sure if he sings about spring, though, because I don't speak french.

Vert, jaune et rouge et bleu Green, yellow and red and blue
J'ai le soleil dans les yeux Sun is in my eyes
Avant de nous faire ses adieux Before waving goodbye
Ché p'us quel de nous deux I don't remember which one of us two
Qui va baisser les yeux who will look down
Il vient de commencer à descendre It just began to fall
Avant de se rendre Before surrending
Y'va nous montrer ses couleurs It will show us its colors
Comme s'il avait eu peur As if it were afraid
Y'est allé rougir ailleurs It went reddening elsewhere
Gris autour et noir au loin Grey around and black beyond
La forêt le rejoint Forest follows it
Pareil au jeu d'un magicien As a magician's play
La forêt le retient Forest holds it back
J'vient de commencer à descendre I just began to fall
Avant de me rendre before surrending
Faut que j'm'invente d'autres couleurs I have to find myself other colors
C'est comme si j'avais eu peur It's as if I were afraid
De me retrouver ailleurs To find myself elsewhere
T'oublier toute une année Forget you one whole year
Une année pour t'oublier A year to forget you
Amène la folie, perd la raison brings madness, goes out of one's mind
Mais j'ai le goût de m'rattraper But I like to catch up
De m'retrouver to find myself back

Just a sunset here ?

with Pick Withers on drums (later with Dire Straits)

The title of the album says it all "spring, ah it's you"

Fred Frith's Domaine De Planousset from the album Speechless.  An instrumental track that perfectly conveys the mood of spring without the pollen. Big smile

Though it is never mentioned expressly in the song, Caravan's "Golf Girl" makes me think of spring. The same could be said of "Hello Hello", which is accompanied by the sound of hedge-clipping shears.

Incidentally, here in the DC area we are having a massive heatwave, so more than spring it feels like high summer... I think we'll be hitting 90°F todayDead.

When I think of music for spring, I think of PFM's Per Un Amico Big smile

...& Franco Battiato's Sulle Corde di Aries Thumbs Up

...this old favorite is quite fitting as well:

I'll have to agree on Per Un Amico...such a great album for this time of year.  And another piece which I consider progressive and which I've always associated with spring (whether it's only for the name or not I don't know, but I've been thinking of it around spring since I was younger and first listened to it) is Stravinsky's Rite of Spring.  Even the subject matter sort of has to do with spring, just instead of the happy light side it's the dark sacrificial side.  LOL

http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=1583 - Julverne . Hard to believe that its members of Univers Zero, Present etc... playing this wonderful, shimmering impressionist music. Start with Spiering  from ../album.asp?id=7387 - À Neuf or almost any track on their two first.

Over land and under ashes
In the sunlight, see - it flashes
Find a fly and eat his eye
But don't believe in me
Don't believe in me
Don't believe in me

It's a bit obvious I guess but Curved Air covered Vivaldi's Four Seasons...

Then there's "April" from the S/T Deep Purple album, but the track's very maudlin and doesn't really seem very uplifting 'cos poor old Rod Evans has just lost his lady.

-------------
It's not that I can't find worth in anything, it's just that I can't find worth in enough.
