At the rate at which reviews fly sometimes by how about adding a click on for that? And possibly 150 and 200, too? Looks like there's room if it isn't a problem for other reasons.

I'd expand things generally to "latest 20-25 reviews", but no more than that. As for what you suggest, only in expandable format, serving people's particular preferences. -------------

There's a latest 50 click already. I wouldn't favor adding smaller increments. But as more people join and review, I imagine the pace will pick up more and the front page has been a great avenue for discovery. It's what got me hooked on this site. Keep up the good work guys! |

Oh no, I like the amount shown when it first comes up, I'd just like to be able to expand it with other options. Although I see what you were getting at, being able to do it in increments rather than click to expand.

Completely off-topic, but I'd like to see a "how useful did you find this review?" option added to reviews; kind of like what you see on Amazon.

talking of Amazon, how about showimg the ammount of 5, 4, 3,2 and 1 star reviews which you can click on. For example it'll show how manmy 1 star reviews and if you click on it, you get a page of all the 1 star reviews. Like this..... ------------- http://www.last.fm/user/Snow_Dog" rel="nofollow">

We've had talks before, M@X implemented a way for people to correspond privately with reviewers. Which is a compromise, some voiced that "reviewing the reviewer" would derail from the main focus - the music. -------------

Yes, I can see where that might be an issue. On the other hand, Amazon is one of the most heavily-visited commercial sites in the world, and I know M@x is all about increasing traffic. Seems like he might be interested in adopting someone else's 'best practice'... BTW, I like Snow Dog's idea about filtering for 1,2,3,4,5 star reviews as well. I could see this being especially useful for albums that have hundreds of reviews since most people are unlikely to get much past Hugues and whoever the second reviewer is. ------------- "Peace is the only battle worth waging." I agree with most people that think that saying that a review is helpful or unhelpful shouldn't be implemented. I really don't think it will help things at all, and besides that it's unneccesary and mailto:M@X - M@X has other stuff to do that would improve the site far more. Besides, if people are uncertain there's always the collaborator and prog reviewers whose analysis of the music should be understood as more knowledgeable and trustable.
As for the original topic, I think harmonium.ro has the right idea by adding a 'X reviews showing, show next X reviews". -------------  |

Just change the number in the URL: http://www.progarchives.com/Default.asp?latest=50 http://www.progarchives.com/Default.asp?latest=100 http://www.progarchives.com/Default.asp?latest=500 http://www.progarchives.com/Default.asp?latest=999 Last 999 reviews is a buffer limit, you can't load "last 1000". You can also enter the values lower than 50, including 1. Very tidy page, I must say. Entering the value 0 gives some very interesting results. |

I did not know you could do that, thanks for the tip. Now if I can only remember how to use that. Regarding the whole reviewing reviews thing... arrrgh.  I don't care what any one thinks of my reviews, and if you need to know how helpful they were to someone else what good does it do anyway? You really need to know if the reviewer by the commenter on the review has opinions that you can rely on. You can do that is by reading the reviews but reading the opinions of the reviews. Too much work! The only real way to do this is to read the review and evaluate it for yourself. I do reviews to hopefully turn people on to music that they may not be aware of. I pretty much skip crappily written reviews and often you only have to read a few words or sentences in to know one. ------------- Released date are often when it it impacted you but recorded dates are when it really happened...
