Hi,

I've stumbled across another interesting band which should find its place here in the archives. Actually, I saw them live yesterday during the first gig of the Festival Jazz in the Old Town in Warsaw. Clap

So, here's their website: http://djabe.hu - http://djabe.hu ,
and their myspace: http://www.myspace.com/djabeworld - http://www.myspace.com/djabeworld

And a pic of the band with a guy they used to play with (and still do actually) whom you probably know (second from the right):

What Steve Hackett (of course) says about the band:

]Djabe are a talented World Fusion band comprising of Ferenc (trumpet, fugal horn, and violin), Attila (electric guitar), Zoltan (keyboard), Tamas (bass) and Szilard (drums). They are often joined by others on unusual instruments like the cimbalom or Moroccan drums, and they often play extremely exotic locations, such as Outer Mongolia. I sometimes jam along with them, adding the occasional well known guitar bit!

]Djabe combine many free styles but use structure to contrast the more 'out there' moments. Attila Egerhazi, the band's driving force and dynamic bass player Tamas Barabas lead the Djabe parade as founding members. Ferenc Kovacs ('Feri' to his friends) manages to play gypsy violin, jazz trumpet, is an Olympic Kendo champion and makes his own hooch which packs as much punch as his martial arts - in short he is a complete original. The Hungarians seem to combine multiple personalities... Nugent often quips "This guy is the king of Hungary..." Feri is as restless as the Mongolian horsemen of the Steppes. It’s probably why he likes to play my piece of the same name.

Nice band; I watched the videos. They seem to make an eclectic mix of electric jazz, world music and new-age. I liked the ethnic stuff the most. The only jazz-rock sample was, to my ears, the one in the short snippet (second video). Fusion yes, Jazz-Rock Fusion no imho.

Hey Tuz, they sound like a 'festival band', some music just lends itself to large open spaces as opposed to a small nightclub. Nice stuff, some definite European Nu Jazz influences plus world beat and Chick Corea influences. Djabe gets a yes vote from me, now all you need is one more yes from Dick or Martin and they are in.

I know Djabe for years, have seen them few times live. Very competent jazz fusion with Balkan and Central European world influences. They have long discography, albums are quite different between each other in style. I prefer early, more jazzy albums.

They regularly plays in SE Europe and there in Baltics. Last summer I
've seen them in Saulkrasti jazz festival nice summer evening in park just 100 m from Baltic sea playing with Steve Hackett. (To be honest, I prefer their works without Hackett!). This summer they have Adriatic/Balkan tour with Steve Hackett as well. First common (live) album is released in 2009 ( whenever there is no separate Djabe section on PA, I just placed it in Steve Hackett discography, what isn't fully correct) and DVD from concert as well.

They have good site in English with full history, discography and some videos, plenty of songs from different albums to listen and even download for free!  http://djabe.hu - http://djabe.hu

How I understand from previous discussion, no-one are against them in PA, many are for,so - what the result?

If they will be included I am ready to fill their page.

Got my vote, a mix of JF JR world fusion  and more - infact in my mind more "progressive" than some to come our way recently
