Many of our old heroes are getting old now...

Learned from the Facebook profile of Ken Westphal that Kerry suffered a stroke this morning. Latest status update: He's out of surgery and sleeping, two blood clots removed.

Thanks for the news, Olav.  Here's hoping for a swift recovery for this compositional legend and Christ-lover.

Sorry to hear about that.  Being an amature guitar and keyboard player he was a big inspiration to me before I took them up.

All the best Kerry!

The latest:

The latest Kerry update from Cheri, his sister in-law: He is beginning to wake up and has a few family member visitors. He is able to acknowledge their presence but has not spoken yet. It is still early and he is still heavily medicated. Keep up the prayers!!!! We will hopefully know more later on this evening! The nurses say he is doing really well considering the stroke he had, so the prayers are helping.

Update:

from Emalie Hunt, Kerry Livgren's sister regarding his stroke: "He seemed to acknowledge visitors and he was able to "tenderly" grip my finger. Please pray specifically for healing in the area of the brain most effected which ...would be his communication. He is safe in the hands of the Healer...we don't always know what our future here holds, but we know Who holds our future."

Update:

update from our friend John Bowes on Kerry's condition: Talked with Vicci this morning, they are encouraged that Kerry does not appear to have any "sagging of the face"....the area of the brain which had the clot deals with the language/high-end skills... they are praying there is little damage to the area. A CAT-scan is scheduled for later today....

the latest from Jake Livgren: "Kerry is resting and recovering from the whole ordeal. He has recognized people in the brief time he's been awake, but he still hasn't talked and is sleeping most of the time. Everyone here is very grate...ful for the concerns you all are showing. More to come...."

From what I read Kerry's son posted he is trying to say sentences although right now they are understandably gibberish for the most part.  These things take time.  I understand it is on the right side of his brain. Just keep the prayers coming for him.

Another update:

The latest update from Emalie: "Most recent update (7:15) on my brother Kerry...He is doing a lot better. He is able to move around albeit slowly in the bed. He is starting to acknowledge what people are saying to him and he is also trying to speak. Vicki said that he got out "I need...". Apparently he couldn't form the rest of the thought but we know he is thinking. Keep praying! It's working!!"

wow what a horrible news and very glad that he doing better.
His music with Kansas had brought me so much happiness into my life. What the world would of been without those wonderful lyrics he wrote? what world of prog would be if Kansas would of never existed?Cry

From Jake Livgrens facebook page just a little while ago:
Not much news. Kerry is resting a lot and he's working with a speech therapist. No word on how thats going as of yet. One thing I heard is that they are planning to move him out of the ICU very soon.

I know that I should be 100% positive but I have tears welling in my Eyes . . .

A Plea and a Prayer:
Think Christ . . . I have prayed soo much for my own problems, but now a HUGE Hero of mine has
suffered.
And so does his Family, but here is a man that took a long Journey to find you again, who ventured
through "every God" to finally rest his head on you Christ, and he created music in tribute, but not
only for you but for Mankind and for the Art of Music, please . . . bring him back to us, resurrect him as
his latest Project of "Lazarus", how fitting that its his latest Epic, then let him finish it with NEW
life, and to continue more of his Gifts to the World and us "Proggers and Wheatheads".

What Kansas means to me:
Kansas was the 1st "Progressive Rock Band" I totally dived into in 1977 at 14, for Christmas I
received the "Point of Know Return" album on LP, went backwards and forwards into their catalogue
and never looked back.  Kansas and Rush always were head to head vying for my Fave Bands of all
time. From Solo efforts to Proto~Kaw, you leave a Legacy but its not over, you have more "work" to do!
From Kansas I ventured onward to Yes, ELP, Genesis, King Crimson, U.K. , eventually Rush and into
Prog Rock/Metal Bands of today. The "Vinyl Confessions Tour was my 1st Concert and still is in the
Top 5 Concerts I have witnessed.  Where would my head be musically without Kansas as my
stepping stone to this awesome genre.

You are a friend to me Kerry, your words from the Book "Seeds of Change" live inside me, though I
stumble and fall, I try to keep the compassion I have had all my life and not be bitter at all the
obstacles I have had to endure, indeed, you have passed what was learned and "spread the
Gospel", through your words and the "Instrumentals" you often made a point, that they are Spiritual
as well. Your words enter my vocabulary, as much as Rush, as any homespun Sage, always fitting
any given situation . . .

May anyone, if they believe in the Divine, or the Guitar Gods, PRAY for this man, because not only did
he Preach Sermons (with alot of Down to Earth Love I imagine) to his congregation, but his Wise
and Profound lyrics and his Guitar roared and cried with passion.

I'm sure I speak for many at Progulus, and all us "Wheatheads", We wish the best for Kerry and his
Family and Friends, "Your heart and mind will be with me (to change the words to "Relentless")".
I've got some serious Prayers to say for a few weeks . . .

Be strong Kerry! and may Christ fill the cup for you to drink, with hopes that one day I can meet you
and say Thank You for your words and Inspiration Smile.
Come back to us my friend . . .

"On a night as I lay sleeping, in a dream I
saw the shore of a distant land where
Promise lay in wait/ And I heard the
sound of voices of a million hungry
souls/ Now it comes to me to lead them
to the gate

But I am just a man, not worthy of this
plan / With a strength that's not my own,
I must rise

And I...will bear the light, ( and the
vision leads me onward) / That
blind....men have their sight / I'd sail a
thousand seas to make it so

To the Kings I gave the mission, in the
hope that they would share / In the joy
of setting countless captives free / But
the lust for Gold and power, is luring us
away / From a calling that began in purity

And I'm still just a man, not worthy of
this plan / With a strength that's not my
own, I must rise

Now a tempest rages in my heart, as this
fever furies on / Soon these islands
promise rest and hope, my answers wait
beyond their shore / Dream on...

Hungry eyes are standing on the sand,
they beckon us to bring the tide /
Sovereign hand must hold me now, I plead
with you / Be my solace and my guide...by
my side

And I...will walk with you / On the
shores of the land of promise / That
blind...men see you too / I'd sail a thousand
seas to make it so!"
