No, that would be Rush. Closely followed by Henry Cow, then Bela Fleck and the Flecktones and Casualties of Applied Metaphysics.
Of course.

What about Amagrama? Now that's the best band ever. Or maybe Gordian Knot. Two pretty obvious choices but still man, hard to deny.

| He's not really trolled just yet, and the first PA troll I'm aware of was someone called Karnevil9, later abreviated to KE9 after he was banished to the prog wasteland for being king of the trolls. Anyone who joined the forum back in 2004 will remember KE9 and his threats to murder anyone who didn't like ELP. Those were the days..such memories..

Well, in an attempt to actually make this thread worthwhile...I have Rare Bird's first two albums and find both of them quite enjoyable. While their debut album had some really good tracks "God of War", "Sympathy", and "Times" among others, their second is absolutely great all the way through. Loved all of the songs, but particularly the epic, multi-part "Flight". Have both of those albums in the 2007 remaster form with the bonus tracks. Been meaning to get their other albums for quite sometime. I know they put out a remastered version of their third album a couple years back. Ah, so much music, so little time.
------------- I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you?

I have these as well. On the Flight piece, they sing about Central Park. In the mad days, progressive rock bands would perform in Central Park. Everytime I play this piece for my friend he says the following: Rare Bird must have played in N.Y. during this time. They had to! I've told him time and time again that there is no info available on this. He then asks: Well why would Rare Bird write lyrics about Central Park?
Who knows? Graham Field is a monster keyboardist. I liked a few tunes from his band Fields, but not the entire album. Epic Forest of course has a different approach musically and different members. The song Epic Forest though is worthwhile. I would like to hear some unreleased tapes of the early incarnation. Someone should plough through vaults. I had the albums long ago and they were on ABC Dunhill (I think).

Nope!!!
Procol Harum trounces RB and even have the axesome Robin Trower on their side.

I beg to differ Hugues (though I used the word "possibly" with Procol Harem specifically in mind) - with Trower most of there stuff was mostly blues rock with the occasional baroque pop gem, the twin-keys didn't get really interesting until after he left, but even then the guitar of Dave Ball was ever present. Rare Bird began as a twin-keys led band that only introduced lead guitar later in their career - so to pit equivalent albums against each other - As Your Mind Flies By and Grand Hotel ... I'd call it a draw.
------------- What?

I can't help but thinking that RB's twin KB attack was lamle and tame. Even when both were playing organ, there were several dozens of better players than them two reunited in one player. There is no enrgy in RB's organ >>> Vincent Crane of Atomic Rooster (now THERE is one rare bird) rules
Furthermore Sympathy is a rehash of Whiter Shade Of Pale
