This is not supposed to be a depressive topic Big smile

Lately, I've been obsessed with the song Time Flies from the new PT album, and I've decided that that is the song I'd want played at my funeral!

The Long And Winding Road by The Beatles is going to follow me when I am carried out of the church after the service. This wish is allready expressed in my last will. I am not dying, so this will happen in around 40 years time.

VDGG - Refugees
Pink Floyd - The Final Cut

It'll take a while before I'll die though, so I might change the songs I want to be played. But for now these are the ones, and probably a third one which I don't know yet.

I would want them to be songs people all knew so probably not my favourite (Can't see everyone hanging around for 'Suppers Ready' but he ho!).

So maybe :

A Whiter Shade of Pale - Cos that's the colour I would have turned.

'Fire' (Arthur Brown) - You're gonna burn -burn -burn (No need for explanation)

Hocus Pocus (Focus) - Everyone should leave to this with a smile on their face!

Carpet Crawlers seemed extremely creepy at first given what it's about, but then thinking about the symbolism regarding the cycles of life it seems strangely appropriate. And the tone of the music itself is revernet. Nice choice.

Nick Drake's "Road"
Alphonse Mouzon's "Golden Rainbows" (c/ Tommy Bolin)

And the easy choice

"Solsbury Hill"

Oh jeez. I hadn't thought about a funeral song but I do have a multi-hour long playlist that I want played in my hospital should I ever go into a persistent vegetative state. It's primarily composed of optimistic and hopeful songs with a tinge of bitterness. Then the final song is "Supper's Ready" and the plug gets pulled at the climax coinciding with the sunrise of the day (provided there isn't sufficient cloud cover to obscure the view of the sun).
We were told everyone should have a living will in one of my classes last semester so I had a bit of fun with it.

If I'm going to be cremated I guess 'My Ashes' by Porcupine Tree would be a good one.

Other appropiate ones would be:
'Afterglow' by Genesis (good post-cremation theme)
'I Talk to the Wind' by King Crimson (good for when the ashes are being scattered)
'Posthumous Silence' by Sylvan (says it all)
'Vital Signs' by Rush (for bit of ironic humour)
'Goodbye Cruel World' by Pink Floyd
'Another One Bites the Dust' by Queen

I think the ultimate one to show that a funeral is a celebration of someone's life rather than a commemoration of their death would be 'Living Thing' by The Electric Light Orchestra

Well, my send off should be dark, damp and scary, as befits a proper funeral Wink.

So, Agalloch at the cementery would be great. Anything from the Mantle should do fine.

But when people are leaving I want "On the road to find out" by Cat Stevens to be played.
That's to remind them that they are still alive with a great many adventures before them (and not to scar(e) anyone for life).
I really like the film "Harold and Maud", that's why funerals and Cat Stevens are irrevocably connected in my subconcious.

Interesting question, though very few get the opportunity to arrange their own funeral LOL

has anybody been to a funeral lately..?  Confused these things are arranged very quickly, are like a production line and usually end up using their stock library of "my way" or "angels", the whole thing is a rush,  the next funeral party is usually outside pushing to get in after ten minutes so prog songs of 20 minutes  plus would be out...Cry

the "minute waltz" would be a good option, if they have it...Wink

I thought that the first song to come out would be KC's "Epitaph".

To Lay Me Down - Jerry Garcia

Across the Universe -  Beatles
Yesterday - Beatles

Personal sentiments in each that I'd want to express one last time, plus simple melodies that everyone in attendance could appreciate.....While I love 20 minute complex prog epics with all my heart, I don't think it a great idea to put beloved 80 year old aunts through that.

Those songs are for the afterparty your friends throw for you, when the brews and Js come out.

Something total BS, like Shakira or MJ (sry shakira/mj-fansOuch )

It would really piss me off, if they would play something good at my funeral while I'm not anymore there to listening. Actually, I don't care what they are playing there. I'm not religious at all. When you're dead, it's permanent!

I've always thought that Tull's Requiem would make a good candidate. Although, I've always wanted to play some Univers Zero.
