Foo Fighters are awesome, definitely one of the greatest bands in the last two decades. I'm not surprised Taylor likes Rush and Genesis, they all seem to have a very wide music taste, they like lots of classic bands you wouldn't even expect from a hard rock band.

Not really into the Foo Fighters themselves at all, but it's pretty clear Taylor Hawkins is into that kind of music. It was very obvious when I saw them covering The Who on a VH1 Rock Honors. He played the part of a more controlled Keith Moon very easily, and very naturally.

Kurt Cobain had some unlikely inspiration sources too, so I'm not surprised by the same thing applying to Dave Grohl.

The Foo Fighters have done a few good songs, and they have a clear love of prog and related bands like Led Zep.

But having seen them live recently on TV, I was rather disappointed with their performance and their music has no relation to prog at all.

I like how some people on hear talk about "Prog Related" as if its a genre.

Foo Fighters aren't prog/ambitious and never will be because they write pretty standard rock songs. They're really good at it though - they write catchy riffs and hooks, something their contemporaries (such as Nickelback) fail at.

And lo, the mighty riffage was played and it was good

I know they did a cover of PF's Have a Cigar with Hawkins on vocals - it was sh*t, but showed they have some appreciation for the classics.
