These 4 albums often are forgotten in the Soft Machine catalogue and usually get paired-up, but not in the way I paired them up. Which pair do you prefer?

^that's strange. Well for me at least, since I've always found Seven to be in the same vein as the live side of Six.
Anyways, I'll go for 4th and 7th too. I don't like much of Fifth, while I like equally Six and Seven, both great albums.

Pairing 5 & 6 is catastrophic for 6 (one of my fave), so I'd have to go for 4 & 7
more likely pairs would've been 4 & 5 and 6 & 7

4 is better than 5 is better than 6 is better than 7.

Of all four of these, just like the majority, six is my favorite of those four by far. I like 4 slightly better than five, and seven also slightly better than five, so it goes 6, 7/ 4, 5, but six is far ahead of the other three, so it tips the scale in that direction. 6/5 for me. ------------- I can understand your anger at me, but what did the horse I rode in on ever do to you? |

6/5 for me - I've always felt 5th to be rather underrated and while the live half of 6th is basically a continuation of 5th the studio tracks see the Softs moving in yet another new direction. | From the parts of these albums that I have luckily got the chance to hear, I'd say fourth and seven. I can't put my finger on it, but the stuff off those albums gave me chills down my spine. But I haven't heard anything yet by Soft Machine that I don't like either. |

Like I told you in another thread, if you're looking for some quality Jazz Rock check Six and Seven, and if you can Floating World Live or British Tour '75 which is the Bundles/Softs period.
