Just to note that PMs were sent under various accounts to various members. Most likely a 13-19 year old African boy looking for easy money, masquerading as a female of one nationality or other. It's not a fraudster really - although this site may have been targeted by one such setup. Usually there's a gang of boys doing this from one Internet Cafe, using that one as their base of operations. And they handle all minor traffic - getting people to send money and stuff. Well armed with pictures of women from different nationalities, more often than not with one or more women involved to handle phone calls as well (although in many cases, especially new set-ups, the boys will try to impersonate a woman on the phone as well). If they manage to lure someone to travel down there, other gangs of more well established fraudsters will take over. The same people trying to trick money out of people by using the "millions in the bank looking for an owner" scheme. More often than not resulting in the disappearance of whoever's stupid enough to travel down there, and the subsequent death when the person can't get them more money. Most common in Nigeria true enough, but these days most African nations have such schemes. As long as they have a destabilized government system where corruption flourishes, these set-ups will go on without anyone looking into them. not surprised .... people here are easy targets. There was a special collab, name withheld to protect the innocent, who first registered here with a female name and was bombarded with PM's by all kinds of posters. Many of them collabs.. many of the them English of course hahha. I got one of these as well, but how do we know it's spam? It seems perfectly logical that beautiful young women will register on a site like this in the hope of meeting a middle aged prog fan like me or some of the other denizens of the Shed. People have often remarked on my similarity to Brad Pitt*.

I know.. it does amaze me that people fall for those kinds of things. Then again ...idiots and dreamers do exist and are always looking for a way to get a quick buck. You figure you sent off a million of those things.. and all you get are 4 or 5 people.. you just got YOUR retirement and savings set up.. 4 or 5 times over. Oh well... not much sympathy for those that fall for it... except for when you hear about older folks, who probably are bit more trusting.. and a world less cynical than most today. I had a email the other day, supposedly from a lawyer telling me they needed to get in contact with me to settle an estate. To be honest.. my parents could be dead now and I wouldn't know it since I haven't spoken to either in years... but the email went right into the delete bin. Seriously... if someone could get my email address.. they damn sure could get my cellphone address and call me. I've had my main e-mail address for so long, I'm fairly sure 99% is spam, granted there are some "spams" I've signed up for. I'm pretty sure my penis has gotten larger just by coming in contact with those I didn't sign up for..

For some strange reason, the Nigeria spammers love the police in the UK. In particular those addresses where you can report Nigeria spam mails. These email accounts get tonnes of Nigerian mails every day..... directly from the spammers in the internet cafeterias in Nigeria. I also get my fair share of Nigeria mail. But not as much as the local police force. It is a menace, but one of those menaces I have to live with, I am afraid. |

I received one from "the self proclaimedPresident" of an African Bank (The only one with a Yahoo mail), who said a whole family had died in an accident and left 10 USMD (That's how they wrote US$ 10'000,000, I guess the M stands for Millions) unclaimed.
What was really terrible, is that they sent me a link from the BBC onljne where a news about a whole familiy who had a plane accident was posted.
This was creepy, even for scum as this guys, to play with tyhe pain of the poeple.
