Who has heard the new Opeth track?

It's "not very metal" says Mikael. It's closest to Kveldsangerr ish Ulver. It takes awhile to get going but..

I think I love it!

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

The thirty second sample on the link isn't a bad representation.

I'm sorta torn. On one hand, I really dig the direction they're going in as far as musical choices. On the other hand, the composition has the same disjointed feel as "Watershed", which overall I wasn't very fond of.

Sounds cool! Thumbs Up

Is this foreshadowing a new album I hope? Wink

"Song is very odd, it's good I think, or for my taste it is, but even I can understand it's very....odd! Produced and recorded it from scratch and I'm happy with the sound if I may say so myself. Fred laid down a killer acoustic solo and Per laid down an amazing twiddly tweet moog solo. It's not a very metal song, I'm saving up for that..later.....yet it's got a metal ‘mentality’, or what I remember metal used to do to me. I can feel it, even though it's not a ‘metal’ song per definition." - Mikael

I don't think this is where the band is necessarily going. I think it's Mikael getting some retro ya-ya's out.

P.S. I love Watershed

Sounds really good, sort of sounds like a mix between 'Atonement' and some of the acoustic passages from Still Life. I really like it though.

I don't know. I really like the musical passages themselves. They just don't tie them together like they used to. Lots of awkward pauses and transitions that don't really fit musically.

I think they lost a lot when Peter Lindgren left, and it shows. He was sort of the unsung hero of their glory days.

^Yeah I definitely agree that they did lose a bit after Lindgren left, although Watershed is still brilliant imo. We'll see how the next one turns out I guess.

I loved Watershed. It hurt when Lindgren left, but the latest album was a borderline masterpiece IMO.

Hello, mirror. So glad to see you, my friend. It's been a while...

I don't think it was a masterpiece, but it still was an excellent album.
