Secret Cinema is an Italian project/band created by keyboardist/organis Beppe Crovella famus from jazz-rock band Arti & Mestieri (alredy on PA), neo-prog/symph "Tower"(already on PA) and collaboration with band "Randone". The only album of "Secret Cinema" called "DREAMIN' OF MY PAST " is a very good symphonic/neo-prog album full of warm analog keys. This album feature only 2 long suites in the best 70' tradition!

Good album, and very rare I might say, symphonic with a touch of neo.

Suggested, unnoticed.

So take this as saying YES, I like them, but they're so rare that nobody know them. Almost.

I didn't noticed you posted about this band earlier, hmm Anyway good band that needs to be here even they are very unknown and obscure italian band. A yes for me, but we need more didcussion here to know in wht zone must be included symphonic or neo.

Another nice Beppe project!  Well, Tower is in Neo, and this project has some similarities with the keyboard emphases, modern production, female English vocals, and relatively low obvious RPI feel.  This project feels more lustrous than Tower, with the expanded tracks and epic feel.  I guess I would first suggest to Neo for the initial eval.  If they strike out there let us know and we'd be happy to do a fuller eval in RPI.  Symphonic would be another option.  Smile

Okies - two move votes from Neo on this one, with symphonic as the obvious choice from the voters.

I presume you'll handle the future of this suggestion without further involvement from our turf ;-)

And I hope that Symphonic dept will see its qualities.

Final report (from me).

Neo passed to Symph.  Symphonic asked that RPI do a final evaluation before Symph did theirs.

RPI did our evaluation, and believes the NEO team was correct, that Symphonic is the best bet for this band.  I have forwarded the suggestion to Symphonic today and asked that they update here when finished.

Thanks,
RPI team

Already voted two of the three members of the Symphonic Team, and both votes are against the inclusion in Symphonic, so won't be added top our data base.

Even when I believe they are some sort of Crossover meets Eclecti, Scott and I agree that they are much closer to Neo Prog than Symphonic.

My opinion is:

Case in hand goes as follows - after checking some opinions on the net as well.

Overall style and stylistic expression is symphonic.

Arrangements and to some extent compositional structure have more in common with Neo-Progressive.

Summa summarum we're stuck with another full blown progressive band that isn't added due to not fitting in.

I'll have a word with Doc later on - we're usually the team sacrificing our ideals to let bands get into the database around these parts anyhow, and I guess one more instance of that won't make any more harm than the previous ones.

Olav, what do you think about their chances in Eclectic?  Part of their definition describes bands who "have a plural style without a clear referential core," which seems to describe Secret Cinema, given the blending of symphonic style with neo arrangements and compositional structure.

The problem Todd, is when people listen some classical references they inmediately think in Symphonic, doesn't matter if this bands are Neo Classical Rock.

But if you listen Revolutioins by Magenta and She by Caamora, you will find strong connections between this bands and Secret Cinema, even when SC released this album before.

Iván, I respect the decision of the symph team.  I just hope the band doesn't get dropped because of subtle differences in stylistic interpretation.

What does Guido think? Is it symphonic to him. I was in two minds about it being so heavily influenced in Neo but does Guido think strongly that it should be in one camp or the other? I could scrape it into symphonic even though the album is predominanlty not there are certain elements of symp.

When that is said, if She had been the first production by Caamora, they would most likely not have been added to Neo. They came in on the grounds of the EP Closer, featuring arrangements much closer to Nolan's other side projects than what would eventually appear on the finalized rock opera She. And indeed, featuring some tracks from his Neo side projects as well.
