Wonderful, light album with beautiful relaxing sounds.

Don't let Ivan see this thread. LOL

said to be both celtic and oriental at the same time, truly majestic and very "new agey"...........
one of my hundred all time favorite albums.....

(maybe just a matter of time before a crew of disney cartoon figures will sing along........)

Good album. I like how it is ethnic sounding and it's a very soothing listen, but on the other hand I find it to get pretty dull at times.

Jon has yet to make a solo album as good as this one.  Speaking of cover art, I have a copy of the original LP and it is spectacular.

I've only listened to that once, and it was as background music while I was doing something so I wasn't really paying close attention, but I seem to recall finding it pleasant if a bit bland

It seems like Joel likes this album but I'm not sure if I remember right....

Along with Fish Out of Water the  best solo Yes ..

^ I would have to put Wakeman's 6 wives and King Arthur along those "best solo Yes". Unfortunatley I don't know Olias yet, but thos Wakeman albums I like better than Fish out of Water. I also find particularly good Wakeman's Criminal Record, Out There, and Journey to the Center of the Earth.

Check out 'short stories' and private collection' with Vangelis for another two new agey Jon records.

And indeed 'Olias of Sunhillow' is the only 100 % good Jon solo record.

"Magma was the very first gothic rock band" (Didier Lockwood)

didn't this album completely invent the New Age Genre by accident before anyone had ever conceived of it?

Not when it was released 3 years after Tubular Bells.

Short Stories really blew me away when it came out.

The best solo album by a Yes member save one, worth four solid stars.

NONE of us can match Joel's enthusiasm for this albumLOL

I rate it extremely highly, but then I rate most of Jon's records very highly. Toltec is my favourite.

I find it less than average...sorry

BTW: What's the relation between Tubular Bells and New Age Chopper?

Tubula Bells is one of the most exiting debut albums I ever heard.

Take's me back to a time of Long hair Trench Coats and hanging out at the local record store with all my other Long hair friends .

I bought two copies of Olais  one just for the cover art  work , which still to this day hangs on the Wall in My studio.

The difference between this solo album and the rest of Jon Anderson's solos is in the presence of Vangelis. This is their first collaboration. I have the vinyl and not only the sleeve design is great. The inside booklet is at the same level of Wakeman's Myths and Legends.

-------------
I stand with Roger Waters, I stand with Joan Baez, I stand with Victor Jara, I stand with Woody Guthrie. Music is revolution
