OK, this is 100% serious thing. Till about a month I knew Budka Suflera to be pretty boring rock band active in 80's 90's. To my surprise I discovered their two first albums are totally progressive. I'm speaking about "Cień wielkiej góry" (1975) and "Przechodniem byłem między wami" (1976).

I know that someone would say that these are only two albums out of fifteen, but it's nothing new in progarchives to add only progressive album/s of some band (check Jose Cid and After The Fire for example) so I don't see a problem here.

The music of these albums reminds me mostly bout Collosseum, a little Gentle Giant and King Crimson, it's maybe not THAT progressive but still. They use string section in some pieces, moog, saxophone, and standard guitar/bass/percussion, but the most important instrument is their vocalist Cugowski, really outstanding.

here are some of my favourite songs from these albums:

from album "Cień wielkiej góry" ("The shadow of a big mountain") (1975):

- "Szalony Koń" ("Crazy Horse") (intro on moog played by Niemen)

(or small fragment) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvK5WnAGbQY - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cvK5WnAGbQY

- "Lubię ten stary obraz" ("I like this old painting") (stick till the end, great rythmic part)

from album "Przechodniem byłem między wami" ("I've been a passerby among you") (1976):

- "Najdłuższa droga" ("The longest road") (my personal favourite)

- "Pożegnanie z cyganerią" ("Farewell to bohemia")

it will be a real loss for Progarchives not to have these albums listed.

P.S. I read somewhere that in the mid 70's, SBB and Budka Suflera were considered the most important polish progressive bands, so...

No samples show up for those two pieces.

Anyway, The other samples are relevant enough, I think; the band reminds me of SBB a lot, so I'll ask the Eclectic team to evaluate the suggestion.

sorry, I thought it was clear - these are not pieces, but albums, and the titles below are the pieces FROM those albums :)

Oh yes, I wasn't paying enough attention, my fault.

I can confirm what Wiktor wrote: many polish fans and experts consider early Budka Suflera as significant representative of local progrock scene. On debut album except Czesław Niemen on keyboards played also Marek Stefankiewicz (mainly Hammond organ), vocal support by women from band Alibabki. Interesting mood and tempo changes, complex suite and stunning Cugowski's singing are essential advantages of band's initial period.

Yes,  "Cień wielkiej góry" (1975) is surely progressive rock album.  I still didn't listen to "Przechodniem byłem między wami" (1976) though....

Worth to be included on PA IMHO.

BTW: All they later albums are good pop/rock.

I think I could do this, but a native speaker would have to correct it later...

If you can do it, I will be very thankful. It doesn't have to be anything special. Formed at the year xx in town yy, band members are a, b and c, prog rock albums are A B and C before they went pop in the 80's.Smile
I could correct it, and I'll sign the addition with your name. Drop me a private message if you want!
