Subject: One discography only!

Imagine the next situation:
1) All music you have/own strangely disappeared from your life
2) You can save one, and only one, complete discography from one artist/band
3) That discography is the only music you´ll hear for the rest of your life
Remember choose one and only one!

you would prefer not to listen to music at all than choosing?

Insanely hard choice. I would probably go with Jethro Tull, because they have a lot of different periods and I like them all, so I would have variety in addition to great music.

The same here.
Johann Sebastian Bach. (now that is a big discography... only with the different versions of the B minor Mass I'd have more cds than most people here... )
If they allow me a second one, LvBeethoven, and a third one, WAMozart.
After like 12 composers, finally Dream Theater would appear...

I thought about Miles Davis and even Magma but I think Herbie Hancock (that is, if part of the deal could be that it would not only be based on the albums I already have, but I would be able to get the complete discography since I have more Miles Davis and Magma albums). Or maybe Sun Ra. It seems I have some more thinking to do.
Then again, maybe Beethoven. No, Rachmaninoff I think.
Edit: Where was my brain? Ennio Morricone.

Probably John Zorn. He has such a huge discography spanning so many different styles, it would take a long time to get bored of that. Frank Zappa and Miles Davis would also be good choices for that same reason.

Thinking about it and i would take all the classical music that i have and listened 2 or 3 times and always get the feeling that i didn't got to enjoy completely... So, i would take my 5cd's boxset of Bach. Just hope to have enough time to listen...

Either Zappa or Davis, because of their fantastic eclectisism in their grand discography.

I was referring to the bolded parts there, and explaining which parts I could/couldn't do with the music of Yoshida Tatsuya's bands. Definitely wouldn't be able to rest, the music's too hyper.

Lame. Even Jean Louis would get old if that's all you had to listen to.
I'd go with Magma or maybe Satoko Fujii since she has a large and diverse discography.
Yeah, I was kidding.
It would have to be Magma; not only are they the greatest damn band there has ever been, but they are still putting out material which is consistent (in terms of quality) with their classic releases.
Does the thread subject imply that we also automatically get all of the artist's discog? That would be a big $ saver

Me too.
Though I might consider Dream Theater, since they have many covers albums, including some covers from whole classic albums. Even if this covers usually fall a bit short from the originals, they are still good enough and I might have some music from other great bands available to hear through DT.

What a horrifying prospect.
It's a toss up for me. It'd likely simply come down to which ever I managed to grab first, but Yes or Sloan is what it would come down to. I've already tested the limits of replayability for both and they've come through rather well for the most part. Relayer is easily one of my top selections and I know I've listened to Never Hear the End of It more than any other album.
However, I did just buy a bunch of Tangerine Dream and Weather Report recently and they've been soaking up a lot of replays.

They're all available on iTunes, but the official shop is still closed, following Tim's health problems. I think Wayside still has copies of the Garage Concerts, which are definitely worth picking up, but that's about it. Don't go paying for overpriced CDs on eBay - at least Tim will see a fraction of the money if you buy the albums through iTunes!

I think I would cheat and try to record my favourite tunes with my own band. It would be a huge discography: at least 20 CDs of covers, from Kate Bush to Napalm Death, including Iron Maiden, Zappa, KC and Front 242 or Cabaret Voltaire.

Frank Zappa. It was between that and KC for both having a wide range of albums. But I feel Zappa would have something to satisfy any kind of musical urge I'd have. As in "I want some classical, I want some jazz, I want some real progressive rock, or I want some damn good blues." Zappa could satisfy for all those and more.
