I just read that there's a new Syd Barrett compilation being worked out, produced by Gilmour himself, with remastered versions and new mixes too. And this compilation includes his solo songs and his Pink Floyd songs. Some people might be interested in this.

Hmmm...thanks for the news. Not my bag but I am sure many other people will be excited about this.

Why? He was a producer on both of the original albums, wasn't he? Confused

http://www.brain-damage.co.uk/latest/an-introduction-to-syd-barrett-coming-from-emi-harvest-in-oc.html - Details and track list here

It amazes me how they refuse to release "Vegetable Man" and "Scream thy last Scream" even when they decide to trot out yet another compilation or collection.  I know they don't like it, but the fact is that many Syd fans aren't all that intested in Roger and David's opinion on which Syd tracks are respectible.  This disc looks OK for Syd noobs who might want a quick overview, like the other Syd single disc collection.  But the best way currently to get the most Syd is to get the 40th Anniv of Piper (3 disc version) + the box set called "Crazy Diamond."  Beyond that you have to go unofficial, which we're not allowed to discuss in detail.

^ And even more, they refuse to release "I'm a King Bee" and "Lucy Leave", the very first songs recorded by the band.

This is pretty worthless.  Not a single song we don't already have...

Yes, and that was the problem. Even the production on those albums showed clear signs of the exploitation of a broken man for money (Even going as far as to include Barrett's confused ramblings between some songs). And really, that's all this is, just a dead man instead. Doesn't make it any better.

According to Pulse and Spirit, you get "Rhamadam" in its 20-minute-version as a free download when you buy the new record.

1. Arnold Layne (2010 Digital Remaster)
2. See Emily Play (2010 Digital Remaster)
3. Apples And Oranges (2010 Digital Remaster)
4. Matilda Mother (Alternative Version) (2010 Mix)
5. Chapter 24 (2010 Digital Remaster)
6. Bike (2010 Digital Remaster)
7. Terrapin (2010 Digital Remaster)
8. Love You (2010 Digital Remaster)
9. Dark Globe (2010 Digital Remaster)
10. Here I Go (2010 Remix)
11. Octopus (2010 Mix)
12. She Took A Long Cool Look (2010 Mix)
13. If It's In You (2010 Digital Remaster)
14. Baby Lemonade (2010 Digital Remaster)
15. Dominoes (2010 Mix)
16. Gigolo Aunt (2010 Digital Remaster)
17. Effervescing Elephant (2010 Digital Remaster)
18. Bob Dylan Blues (2010 Digital Remaster)

That's the setlist. They could have done much better things about Barrett's material... remix "Singing A Song In The Morning" so that Barrett's guitar gets louder in the mix, or find "Lanky Pt.1", publish "Scream Thy Last Scream"/"Vegetable Man" or "Lucy Leave"/"King Bee" (only available in an unknown book until today).

I know all of the songs, but perhaps - if the price gets better - I buy it for "Ramadam".

What the H bomb is Rhamadam? Was it on any of his solo albums? Huh? I don't remember?

Besides his solo stuff is a novelty but one that wears off pretty quickly. The only interesting part about the early floyd was the technology and the vicious psychadelic grooves. Syd's themes and lyrics sucked. I would never have paid attention to Floyd without the Waters era.

You have to wonder..... Considering how this sounds like such a cash grab, that if they really wanted a cash grab they'd put out a compilation with Vegetable Man/STLS plus live stuff and outtakes, not just a 'greatest hits' compilation....... I mean, I'd buy that, but I guess this is for people wary of buying the 3 CDs individually or the Crazy Diamond box......

That's it? Confused Wouldn't You Miss Me? was a more practical comp, and even that wasn't perfect ("Love You" and "No Man's Land" were nowhere to be found).  IMO, this is probably gonna turn out like Hendrix's Valleys Of Neptune, where there's some good stuff, but should've been in one of the previous comps like First Rays or South Saturn Delta.

I believe it's a track that was recorded during the Madcap Laughs sessions. IIRC, the song was supposed to include sounds of a motorcycle that Syd left running for about two hours.

How about an early Floyd compilation with:
- I'm a King Bee.
- Lucy Leave.
- Nick's Groove.
- Arnold Layne.
- Candy and a Currant Bum.
- See Emily Play.
- Apples and Oranges.
- Paintbox.
- Vegetable Man.
- STLS.

Now, I know all but the first two and the last two are easily available, but none of this songs were released in a full album, and we may get a "Lost" Barrett Floyd album. I would certainly buy it. Oh, and it could be called "Games for May" (though I think that name already exists on a bootleg).

I just read that this album is suposed to include a previously unreleased 20 min instrumental song called Rhamadam. Though it wasn't clear enough to me if it will be part of the CD or just as an extra downloadable track. It may be interesting to hear it.

I think it's just for those who download it via iTunes.
