Hmm, I like OK Computer more, but Trilogy is a fundamental prog album, what do I pick?

Posted By: Slartibartfast

That's a tough one as I like them both and they are different styles. So I'm going have to vote for the one currently trailing.  If I had to predict, I think Trilogy will retain it's lead.

Kid A > Trilogy > OK Computer

I'm not a big fan of any of those two albums, but Trilogy has some songs that are definitely essential for a Prog fan to listen to: the title track, The Endless Enigma and Hoedown.

Trilogy is and has been my favourite ELP and favourite Prog albums since it was released. Ok Computer is just that...Ok.

Thank you for supporting independently produced music

An odd comparison...despite my goofball love affair with ELP (who were, no doubt, the best that ever were), I would have to say that Radiohead is a better band, and that Computer is one of their best albums, whereas Trilogy is not one of ELP's best...

Trilogy has higher highs, but also lower lows. OK Computer is far more consistent throughout, so I gave the nod to Radiohead.

trilogy is above ok computer.

ok computer is my favourite radiohead album, but everything elp did up until brain salad surgery just wins when you consider that this is a prog tournment.

Trilogy is strong prog album. OK Computer? Question of taste , but hardy progressive rock at all.

P.S. Some people think Tori Amos is prog singer though....

Both 4 star albums ,not the best by either band but not far off. Trilogy is the most complete ELP album but very disjointed. OK Computer was prog for a new generation with definite nods towards King Crimson.I'm not going to vote in this one.

OK Computer is great front to back. Trilogy has some eargasmic moments, but also some cheesy ones. Ok Computer wins.

I can dig it. It's become "cool" to hate on ELP and Genesis. We don't care that they have a song called "The Endless Enigma Part II", or a 20 minute song about battles between mythical creatures, we like it anyway!

Skewing the truth a bit.Radiohead have got nearly 40% of the vote on a forum dedicated to prog rock of which ELP were one of the major players!

Posted By: Moogtron III

Well, not a big Radiohead fan and appreciating ELP much more...

... in general, that is. The thing is: Trilogy doesn't reach the heights of ELP's debut and Brain Salad Surgery, while OK Computer may be Radiohead's strongest output. So I voted OK Computer.

Damn. This thread could be called "the battle of the overrated bands".

But this one is clearly taken by Radiohead. You pit their best album vs ELP's mediocre effort. Tarkus would have been the only ELP album capable of winning against Ok Compuer.
