I found allmusic's intro on Tom Newman, and checked out if he's on Archives. No. Has he ever been suggested? Sounds like a pure prog musician! Anyone heard the mentioned album?

"...  http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=10:hxfixqr5ldae - Faerie Symphony  (1977), one of the last unabashedly progressive rock long-players to come out of England during an era when the music had definitely gone out of fashion. In the years since, Newman has followed his own star, recording material that ranges from quasi-New Age ambient sound to sing-along numbers."

Just to bring this suggestion on the surface...

I'd like to see someone from the Symphonic team to respond.

Seems like your suggestion slipped through the cracks in the floor when I was on holiday. I'll check the issue asap, thanks.

Good stuff!

Sounds like Mike Oldfield indeed, I'm going to ask the Crossover Team for an evaluation.
