Subject: New Kayo Dot EP Announced

I was just visiting Kayo Dot's website and...

Our new EP, Stained Glass, is now finished!! It will be released by http://www.hydrahead.com/ - Hydra Head this November. We're planning on doing a short Northeast US/Canada tour for this release, and are expecting to have CD copies of Stained Glass as well as the vinyl version of our last album, Coyote, for these dates!

We recently performed Coyote live in its entirety on Pipeline!, a program on WMBR 88.1 FM. The performance is archived online at http://wmbr.mit.edu/ - wmbr.mit.edu - or downloadable at our audio page. Go check it out!

As you may have heard, we recently reached our fundraising goal for a TARTAR LAMB II record via kickstarter.com. We'll be recording this month for an expected January release date, just in time for our January/February 2011 European tour!

We are also pleased to announce that MAUDLIN OF THE WELL's 2009 fan-funded release, Part The Second, will be released on vinyl as a 2xLP by http://antitheticrecords.blogspot.com/ - ANTITHETIC RECORDS this fall. You will be able to buy copies of this through ANTITHETIC RECORDS and also through us. The website for Part The Second, http://maudlinofthewell.net/ - maudlinofthewell.net , where you can download a free, high-quality digital version of the album, will remain active.

I'm listening to the live performance of Coyote now. It's great.

Could KD sweep both number 1 and 2 spots this year? Wink

But still pretty cool. I'm sure I'll buy it.

You mean on the Top of 2010 list?  If so, Coyote had better get a lot more people to vote it up, it's currently #23. Wink

I meant the collab list. Tongue

Overall list it is unlikely...unless alot of people can't accurately form sentences when listening to it. Which, judging by some of the comments I've seen, isn't unreasonable.

Oh come on now, Joel doesn't have that much control over the collab list, does he? LOL

That's the only possible scenario I can think of.

Stained Glass is a twenty-minute composition which is being released as an upcoming EP (November 2010). Partially recorded at Zing in Westfield, MA, by Jim Fogarty, the majority of this recording was done at home and engineered by Toby Driver. Kayo Dot did Stained Glass this way simply because budgets for recording are getting smaller and smaller in this day and age when no one is buying CDs. There was a need to see if they could make a good record for virtually nothing. It seemed to have worked in this case, although the instrumentation was completely dictated by this prohibition!

Line-up:

Toby Driver - vocals, bass, guitar
Mia Matsumiya - violin
Terran Olson - keys
Daniel Means - saxophone
Dave Bodie - orchestral percussion
Russell Greenberg - xylophone
Trey Spruance - guitar solo

"Scenes of rapture, agony, and consecration are arrayed as windows in this latest EP by the avant-rock maestros. With a large ensemble of glimmering malleted percussion, shrieking distorted organs, crystalline guitars, and sighing horns, violins, and vocals, Stained Glass' translucent passages of unearthly beauty set a new standard in soothing terror. Stained Glass features the return of original Kayo Dot lyricist Jason Byron, as well as a guest appearance by electric guitar genius Trey Spruance (Secret Chiefs 3, Mr. Bungle)."

New EP and possible shows near me? Very awesome.

Shame to hear that they're so limited by budget, though...

For some reason their site is down and so I cant cheak, but I think their website said Stained Glass is in stock, either way I bought it and a t shirt.

I see Gandalff has already put in his 1 star rating, having not heard it.

The only way to have heard it so far is by attending one of their current gigs and getting the CD there AFAIK, as that's the only time they're available before nov. 26th, so it's plausible to have legally gotten a copy already, although I'm not so sure.

Gandalff is in the Czech Republic and we know he's a fervent KD hater. You do the math...

Yeah, I just saw the Czech Republic part on his profile, that definitely doesn't add up.  Bumped your report up in the Innappropriate Ratings thread.
