Both of these artists have recently been added to the Crossover section of PA; they have both been controversial additions to the site because many people view neither of them as progressive. Also, Trent Reznor has done backing vocals on Tori Amos albums. So, which one do you prefer?

Tori simply for being not as dark.  I gave the thumbs up for both when I was on the team.  (I recently volunteered to step aside for someone who could be more active in evaluations Big smile.)

What's really peculiar is that the girlfriend before the one who is now my wife turned me on to those two.

Also, my wife is now making sweet potatoes scream in the microwave. LOL

For me it actually does.  I got to know them both at about the same time.  They always seemed progressive on the fringe to me and I likely would never have gotten to know if it weren't for a former girlfriend.  But since when has things that don't exactly equate ever stopped anyone from making a poll about them.

Voted for Tori Amos... but NIN is good enough for me. Both are good additions to PA... some fresh air to our site...

NIN.

either way this is another stupid f**king poll. People really need to stop posting polls that are this stupid, especially in a prog forum. i sort of assumed there wouldn't be many NIN fans here, considering not many people have heard the vast array of trent reznors music. Give all his cd's a listen and you will get why he is on the the site. So many concept albums, and progressively structured songs.
P.S. If you are gonna have discusting sh*t like dreamtheatre and opeth on here without making a hate forum, then dont bother disliking NIN's as you in the eyes of a "REAL" prog lover are already disreguarded.

I really dislike both of them, but there's nothing bad in starting polls. Also as well as both are on PA, even if I can't understand why, there's nothing wrong in doing a poll in this section.
Calling f**king stupid a participant makes me more disappointed than any Tori Amos 5 stars reviewThumbs Down

No idea who or how one could be preferred from one another objectively. I like to see and hear the best album from everyone, so I mange to squeeze a Dream Thater and Opeth release (not sure if either are the classic release, Memory and Damnation - if there is such a thing. Why describe these bands as disgusting? They are good creative artists doing a pretty fine job at making music.

Yet to find (or even look) for a Tori Amos release. I don't even have her and Plant''s cover of Down By The Seaside.

One thing I do find is the standard of releases from men versus women artists. Hate to say it (un PC, unreconstructed chauvinist I am I know) but I tried e.g. Maggie Reilly's solo albums (f8nally) after being long acquainted with her work with Mike Oldfield. Very disappointed with these. Yet so many female singers / bands just don't have what it takes to be Yes, Rush etc. Yet classical music has so many good female musicians. Why not prog or jazz... sorry going off topic. But that's a side effect of the prog poll.

Although i don't really agree with either being here at least in a full-blown prog genre (but that's besides the point)

I kind of like both of them, actually!!

Even if NIN owes much to Front 242, I'll give it the nod over TA.

Because Tori Amos owes almost everything to Kate Bush >>> except that she's much more a one-dimensional artiste >>> basically a piano singer/songwriter

I have mixed feelings about additions like these. They're not even "prog related", but maybe "something prog listeners might like". On one side I like the fact I can find lots of bands that are not strictly prog in here, because I listen to a lot of different stuff and PA is a precious guide so, the more the better. On the other side, it's still PROG Archives.
What's my point? I don't know... Tongue

As to the poll, I didn't vote. I like them both equally and it doesn't honestly make sense to discriminate between two such different artists.

Not really a fan of either but I guess if I had to choose I'd pick NIN because I really like Burn.

As a fan of both, I don't think so.  Kind of depends on how heavy you like your songwriting.  Tori is oozing and overflowing with songs. Not that quantity necessarily makes them better songs.

I'm listening to NIN right now (just bought With Teeth today).  I don't have any Tori Amos, but as her name comes up frequently hereso  I should at least check some of her stuff out.  I guess I can start by scanning this thread for potential places to start.

Yeah, I was really only thinking of one album when I said that, and that would be the Ghosts cd, and Tori has not really done anything similar.

Ah, but Ghosts doesn't have any singing, so technically not an album of songs, which reminds me Adrian Belew has worked with both.  Also, for those who like things heavier, check out her cover of Raining Blood.

Well for sure he is not a better singer than ToriLOL. But still, I am think the songwriting (even though there isnt any vocals) is (on that album) is extremely great.

NiN is terrible.

I would certainy  prefer listening to NiN over Modern Talking, Britney,Backstreet Boys and their male and female ilk,  most nu metal,  most grunge, most punk, rap, techno, and that sort of junk, Cannibal Corpse and their ilk, and  of course  Reznor's disciple Brian Warner,  "mulatós"   music, but I am afraid  that probably I named almost  everything, so  Tori Amos windshere, even if I am hardly a  big fan of her.
