Welcome to Round 3 Division 7 of Battle of the Prog Bands! This time, our two contenders are Riverside and Opeth. Vote for your favorite, and the band with the most votes will move onto Round 4. Please do not vote unless you have listened to at least one album by both bands.
Here is the tournament thus far:

Opeth is one of my greatest discoveries of late, and I just can't get enough of Still Life. I never thought I would get into Metal, but they proved me wrong. Unfortunately, I haven't heard Riverside so I can't vote.

I've gotta take Opeth. I love Riverside, but Opeth's music is another dimension apart from theirs for me.

Riverside. Second life symdrome and Rapid eye Movement! never really got into opeth besides the album wilson produced, and i dont apreciate harsh vocals, never could. ------------- |

I haven't heard Riverside and I'm not a huge fan of what little Opeth I've heard so far - I almost bought an Opeth album about a month ago, but instead I got Eric Dolphy's Out to Lunch.

| Not a big fan of either, but I'd take Second Life Syndrome over Damnation. While I think Opeth are stronger musically, at least more interesting for me, the growls just ruin the whole listening experience for me. |

| Had to think about this one for a while. I really love Riverside (plus I'm part Polish!), but I'm compelled to vote for Opeth just because I've been listening to them for so much longer. I think if Riverside put out one more album that is as strong as their previous releases, they'll really match Opeth's level. |

Both bands create some of the greatest, most emotional, and most sophisticated progressive metal ever. However, Opeth's pioneering style and immense impact makes them the obvious choice; they've relased at least four absolute masterpieces. -------------  |

Riverside is fine, Opeth is brilliant. Looking at the remaining players in the battle, they only lose to Floyd, Crimson for me. With Rush it will be a toss-up. |

or floyd, that would be too predictable. so Riverside beated PoS, Ayreon and DT but its falling against Opeth, weird because i think DT would beat Opeth... easily.

Riverside - but not by a great deal. They were really good when I saw them live in a little place in London a couple of years back.

See, initially, the growled vocals were what put me off Opeth. But, as I listened to them more, I realised this: Growled is just another word for glorious.

See you at the next match of Battle of the Prog Bands! I must say, I'm really surprised at how well Riverside has done in this tournament. They managed to defeat giants like DT and PoS, and put up quite a good fight against Opeth. Maybe they're the next Metal band I should check out.

I respect Opeth... but I I'm not a fan of the growling. Love Damnation and Heritage Riverside is one my fave bands. They are amazing and get my vote. ------------- Prog On! |
