I have heard maybe two or three tracks of Three Friends, so in an attempt to be honest I won't vote, although Free Hand is one of my favourite GG albums.

Three Friends.  Free Hand is my least favorite of GG's middle period.

Really, Really tough for me. Have to go with Free Hand as it was my introduction to the band and got me hooked.

Free Hand is not the best GG album ever but I prefer it over Three Friends.

... how 'bout the evident assonance between the two titles? Was it intentional?

Both are awesome, but Free Hand really wins it for me.  Three Friends is SO close though.

I was just listening to Three Friends yesterday.  Can't believe it would actually be ahead of Free Hand. Ouch  Three Friends, by GG standards, is actually a bit stagnant coming after the incredible Acquiring the Taste. Free Hand, on the other hand Wink, is in class by itself, at a level even they couldn't touch before or after.

^ This, although I love all of the classic 8.

So yeah... Free Hand it is.

OK, I have heard Three Friends yesterday evening. The choice is a bit harder than I would expect: the part of Schooldays from 3-6 minutes is pure genius and this album has no real weak spots, but it is still too hard for me to vote against the album that contains His Last Voyage, On Reflection or Talybont, so I give Free Hand the lead.
