Hi,

Me and my prog stalwart cousin were wondering, other than our local Bahraini Band http://www.progarchives.com/artist.asp?id=277 - Osiris , do you know of any other Progressive Rock bands from the Middle East? (in the sense of Arabian countries in general)

Philippines is definitely far off here. Sure Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country but I don't think the music played by the Indonesian bands listed in PA are middle eastern influenced at all.

Ha!
Are the years missing? I humbly fill them in:

Finally I agree. Clap This should be posted in the various "define prog rock" threads!

I was referring to them not being Arab/Muslim. I'm saying their music is not what you may call Arab/Muslim as that would mean they are middle eastern influenced. I certainly wasn't talking about their geographical location (although I have to admit my choice of the word 'far' might caused the confusion).

So you assumed that while I know that those countries aren't Middle Eastern, maybe I still thought that their music might have Middle Eastern influences? Well thanks...

I simply put them non-Middle Eastern countries because I thought the OP might be interested, despite that wasn't exactly what he asked.

No need to get tensed up. You implied the bands from the two countries (or at least some of them) as being Arab/Muslim. I'm just saying that's not true. To your credit you did mention you were not sure they are Arab/Muslim.

I didn't "imply" that those two countries are Muslim, I actually said that they are Muslim countries, and I was pretty sure about that. LOL (I didn't know the Philippines are mainly Christian, "never too late to learn"). RE Indonezia, your initial critique wasn't that I was stating them as Muslim (because they are Muslim), but that I implied Middle Eastern musical influences. So don't say now that you corrected me for saying they are a Muslim country, because you didn't. LOL Regarding the Philipinnes, yes, now I see that your critique was correct, but I couldn't have guessed what you're actually saying because you just said they're "far off here" (don't expect us to read your mind when using eliptical expressions like that one). Since your mention of Indonesia was about musical influences, I supposed the one regarding the Philipinnes has the same subject.
So in conclusion, if you'd be more clear when you write none of these complications would appear.

Yeah, you get my point. I realize they way I put it was confusing, and I already acknowledged that. Peace?

Is Prog at all popular/developed in Arab/Muslim countries?
If you're an open person and don't limit yourself to Arabian countries only, you can find some bands from Israel on Prog Archives.
Try Ahoora-Akward Diary although I'm not sure if you consider Iran as being an arabian country

Most Iranians I know refer to themselves as Persian.

I have found the best reference for prog rock bands on the net, the Prog Archives itself. But since Prog Archives is expanded on a voluntarily basis and there are many middle east bands, there could always be bands unlisted here. There is also a website http://mideastunes.com" rel="nofollow - http://mideastunes.com which classifies middle eastern bands and it is possible to search with genre filter. It could also be a good resource to introduce new bands to Prog Archives.
