What do you think about Hipsters?
Are you one of them?
Why they all seem to like post-rock?
Why everybody hates them?

When I went to a Red Sparowes concert it was a "hipster infestation" (to quote somebody there)

Yeah, some hipsters do have an affection for post-rock and math rock.

I saw Animals as Leaders two days ago in support of Circa Survive, now THAT was a hipster infestation.

On the other hand, the Russian Circles show was devoid of hipsters, probably because Skeletonwitch and High on Fire scared them off

Some have argued that the term "hipster" is meaningless, but those people are in fact hipsters so I don't accept their opinion. I guess it's primarily people getting angry about privilege, because I don't know why you would care that some idiot is living in Williamsburg listening to horrible music and wearing stupid clothing except that you're mad that your parents can't/won't subsidize a carefree life based primarily around food, drinking, sex, and twee music into your late '20s like their parents. The rage about emos that seems to have all but sputtered out (Hot Topic even recently announced massive layoffs) was based around a similar thing: people would always get most upset about teenagers going to Hot Topic with their parents' money.

I mean read the highest rated definion http://hipster.urbanup.com/2705928 - here  (UD is clearly a hipster nexus), I don't think I could tolerate the person who wrote it, but I've never actually been around too many hipsters. Wearing empty glasses rims probably pisses me off more than anything else.

However, Stuff White People Like and Look At This f**king Hipster aren't funny at all.

I may have. Doom/stoner metal like HoF is usually quite good.

Never heard the term. What is it?

I understand why now...more an American thing. ( I looked at HP's link)

Unless you're a teenager/young adult, you probably haven't heard the term.

Hipsters generally like indie rock (it's a genre--u mad if you disagree) but also have token bands in other genres that it is acceptable to like, and then they will like them FOREVER.

Black metal is one of those genres. But only "cool" black metal, nothing of what the plebians like.

Also, you are now aware Agalloch is a hipster metal band.

I've been referred to as both a nerd AND a hipster, and I don't really think I'm the second one...or the first, for that matter.

This cartoon explains it pretty well:

Anyone fussing about what / who / where / why is a hipster is a hipster. Does making this statement make me somewhat of a hipster? Probably.
