Another 4 hour travel for a prog concert...ah well it was worth it. Went with an old concert-going buddy of mine.

The venue was Lincoln Hall, a small little black box of a venue that was great for metal. Lots of the usual suspects in terms of audience members. Similar to what you'd see at Dream Theater. Devin was calling out for the nerds and "dungeon masters" and telling anyone who was cool that they were at the wrong show.

Opening band Tesseract were very solid Djent (Meshuggah-style metal). The singer actually sang, and the odd time signatures were great. If I get any more albums in that genre, I'll probably get their album. Very precise playing, intense vibe. Great warmup to Devy.

Devin came out with his baritone Peavey V guitar which is quite an instrument. He was mugging and goofing the entire show, clearly having a good time even though it was the last night of the tour. I was close enough to the stage to just miss touching him or the guitar. Plenty of audience members were rubbing his head, and he was digging it. The setlist was something like:

Addicted!
Supercrush!
Kingdom
Deadhead
Truth
OM
Life
By Your Command
Gaia
Bad Devil

Encore:
Color Your World
The Greys
Deep Peace

Addicted was solid but Supercrush was just amazing. The crowd was singing in unison, just one of those peak concert moments that come sometimes. Deadhead was a huge highlight, along with Color Your World, and the the finale of Deep Peace was just incredible. For that song, Devy just played and let the music do the talking. Though the antics are fun, the guy is so talented I wish there had been a little more of this.

While my choice for Devy's greatest hits would have looked a bit different, this was a great sampling of his material, and everyone had a great time. Definitely go see him if you get the chance.

You are quite a fine person, and I am very fond of you. But you are only quite a little fellow, in a wide world, after all.

Oh man I wish I could get the chance to see him, but it's unlikely living in NZ. That setlist is fantastic, great to see such a variety of old and new stuff. Ending with Deep Peace would have been incredible
