THE TANGENT "SEARCH FOR A SOLO"

Press Statement from SALLY COLLYER MUSIC

Further Details at http://www.thetangent.org" rel="nofollow - - www.thetangent.org -

The latest venture from UK Progressive Rock Band THE TANGENT is already attracting the attention of musicians from around the globe.

This takes the form of a COMPETITION, where other musicians, anywhere in the world, of any age, sex, nationality and from any genre are invited to record a solo for the Tangent's album "COMM" due for release by Insideout Music/Century Media (Germany) and distributed worldwide on CD by EMI.

A Thirty Two Bar long segment of the album (nearly a minute) has been left "blank" for soloists on ANY MUSICAL INSTRUMENT to record their ideas at home or in their personal studios, and submit them for inclusion in the final version of the song "The Wiki-Man", which is a classic Prog Rock 20 minute epic.

Band leader/composer/keyboards player and vocalist Andy Tillison says:

"This idea is totally in keeping with the band's history and philosophy, and completely at one with the concept of our album COMM which is all about positive and negative sides of modern communications. The band's first album was made by musicians who were actually unknown to one another , and now on our 6th album, knowing each other very well, it's time to re-introduce that unexpected element. It will be exciting to hear what other people think this section should be like, we look forward to hearing many ideas, many styles, many instruments. We are hoping that people of all levels of ability will enter, because no matter how skilled the musicians are, the best idea will be favoured. It's not a big budget competition like on the TV shows, it's about contributing something to a band that are real, who care about where music is going. There's no real prize for the winner other than appearing on the final album, and being on the sleeve with us. More than that, it's about instrumentalists, who have become the forgotten people of music in the current spate of TV contests, practically unseen!"

All entries will be posted on the bands website and a megamix of the best 10 solos received will also feature as a bonus track on the forthcoming album, but the winner will be in the main song performance.

"This is an opportunity for everyone who has a home studio to get involved and get something out there" says the band's 22 year old guitarist Luke Machin who has himself already played alongside musicians like Robert Plant, Jeff Beck and Francis Dunnery.

"It's all about being given a chance, and this is, well, a chance!!"

Instructions, details and everything needed to enter and take part in the competition are available at the band's website " rel="nofollow - - www.thetangent.org - -

- In the meantime, the band are currently in the studio recording for the album, and also a new studio based Fan DVD for release in the new year. 2011 live dates in Europe are currently being organised with gigs in London, Holland, Spain - and two major festival headlines recently confirmed.

Nice idea. Wonder if they'd go for a bass solo?

Check out my entry for solo competition! I used DB-01, Dimebag Darrell's wah pedal signature model for this solo.
